20targetswerereadyforactionattheevent.

The competition pits teams from the RandyCrawfordofTRAArtServicescreatedthisdynamicillustrationofaFirebee
UnitedStatesAirForce(F-15),theCanadian inactionforusewiththeWilliamTellexercisesinFloridathismonth.
AirForce(F-18)andtheU.S.NationalGuard

Argus Delivers Clear Photos In
Air Force Demonstration
Argus, a U.S. Air Force Firebee modified byTRAto carry
multiple reconnaissance sensors as well as image data links,
performed remarkablyduringtheAir Force's Green Flagelec-
tronicwarfarecombatexercisesatNellisAirForceBase,Nevada
lastmonth.
TwoArgusvehicleswereflownautonomouslyaccordingto
pre-programmedwaypointandmissioninstructionsafterlaunch
fromtheDC-130. TheUAVswererecoveredbyparachuteatthe
endofeachmissionand"turnedaround"fortheirnextflightsby
AirForceandTRApersonnel.

personalcomputersystemswithinTRAsincethefirstofthe
year.Inadditiontoselectingandinstallingnewequipment,
thedepartmentrespondsto25-35callseachdayforassistance
witheitherhardwareorsoftwarequestionsfromemployees.
"Withmorethan460PCsystemsontheplant,"saidSmith,
"weneverknowwherethenextcallmightsendus. Ourgoalis
toprovidesolutionsjustasquicklyaswecan,sinceweknow
howmuchtheemployeesrelyontheircomputers."

makeuptheMicroComputerSupportDepartment. Thusthey
areresponsibleforknowinghowcomputerssuchastheIBM
PC and IBM compatibles and Macintosh work, as well as
varioustypesofprintersandamultitudeofsoftwarepackages.

WordforWindows,Lotusspreadsheet,Paradoxdatabaseand
similar programs for use in word processing, engineering
calculations,datastorageandretrieval,etc.
This group does not have to be concerned about the
mainframecomputer,butdoestakecareofallofthePCsin
officesandtheshops.
ThegroupisalsohelpingTRAmovemoretowardsnet-
working,socomputerswithinafunctioncanbeusedtocom-
municatewiththeothercomputersinthatfunction.

tively)andattendclassesaswellasworkingpart-timeatTRA.
