TAMIL NADU STATE ELECTION COMMISSION , CHENNAI -6 00 106 . - [E LECTIONS - TOWN PANCHAYATS , MUNICIPALITIES AND CORPORATIONS - CONDUCT OF - HOURS OF POLL - NOTIFIED .] (S .O.No.4 /2 022 /T NSEC /M E1 , dated the 20th January 2022 ) No.VI (2 ) / 1 3 (a )/ 2 022 . WHEREAS , rule 22 of the Tamil Nadu Town Panchayats , Municipalities and Corporations (E lections ) Rules , 2006 , provides that the hours during which the poll will be open for the elections to the Town Panchayats , Municipalities and Corporations , being not less than ten hours between 7.00 A.M. and 5.30 P.M. WHEREAS , due to prevailing Covid -1 9 pandemic situation and the guidelines (S tandard Operating Procedures ) are being issued by the Government , the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission , as a precautionary measure and to facilitate the electors , having temperature more than 98.4 F with Covid -1 9 symptoms or undergoing treatment for Covid -1 9 , to exercise franchise , has decided to extend the hours of poll to 11 hours instead of 10 hours in elections to Urban Local Bodies ; and WHEREAS , a difficulty has thus arisen for the extension of hours of poll ; NOW 1, THEREFORE , for removing the difficulty , in exercise of the powers conferred under Article 243ZA of Constitution of India and rule 22 read with rule 139 the Tamil Nadu Town Panchayats , Municipalities and Corporations (E lections ), Rules , 2006 , the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission hereby fixes that the hours of poll in elections to Town Panchayats , Municipalities and Corporations , shall be between 7.00 A.M. and 6.00 P.M. and fixes the last one hour between 5.00 P.M. and 6.00 P.M. exclusively for the electors having temperature more than 98.4 F with Covid -1 9 symptoms or undergoing treatment for Covid -1 9 , on the day notified for poll .
