Perhaps the most striking difference betweenPratiaandLobeliaisthatthertrst-mentionedgenushasanindehis- cent berry as its fruitwhileLobelia has adehiscentcapsule. McVaugh (1943) treated five Jamaican species and three Central American species as the North American representatives ofthe baccate genusPratiaGaudichaud,otherwiselargelyconfinedtotheEasternHemi- sphere.
