My mission is to help you catapult your career as painlessly as possible via a simple how-to resume- building process, so that you can achieve the highest-level result possible by writing your resume yourself. My goal is to impart upon you the methods, techniques, and proprietary information I have successfully used in my private practice that have helped clients advance their careers and improve their quality of life, and to coach you side-by-side as you complete each step. The amount of effort you put into preparing your resume is commensurate with the level of success you will achieve when you send it out. The greater the effort, the greater the interview results, and the more satisfied you can be with the type of job you land and, ultimately, your lifestyle. So pay particular attention as you review each step to make your resume the best it can possibly be! The end result will show prospective employers why you are the best candidate for the job. As resume writers and career coaches, we take every little bit of information from our clients to capitalize on their strengths and their competitive edge; and we weigh every word in the resume before we consider it complete. So to get the most out of this process, take your time with each step to be sure you have left no stone unturned in making yourself shine! All you need to do is follow each step carefully to develop your winning resume. And when you’re reading your final draft, don’t be surprised if you say, “Wow! I’d hire me!” as clients of professional resume writers often do. Let’s get started on your road to success! 0000 JJ77778800 SStteeppFFMM 33..iinndddd iiiiii 66//3300//1100 99::2211::5544 AAMM Contents INTRODUCTION: HOW TO USE THIS BOOK .....................ix STEP 99::2211::5555 AAMM INTRODUCTION: How to Use This Book I have written, designed, and produced numerous promotional materials and sales tools for businesses and individuals over the past 19 years. I actually came into the profession of resume writing and career coaching out of designing and writing brochures and self-promotions for businesses. My nature is to tackle challenges through creative problem-solving techniques. So when family and friends came to me to write their resumes, I automatically wrote and designed them as I would any other sales tool—around the product (the appli- cant), the market (the profession), and the targeted audience (the prospective employer). I wrote the resumes by infusing the number-one marketing technique: selling the benefits of the applicant’s (the product’s) services by showcasing why they were an asset to prospective firms. Then I designed their resumes to match their targeted audience (the employer). These family members and friends instantly received job interview calls. At first, I chalked it up to luck or being in the right place at the right time. However, when the results continued to be the same every time, I realized it wasn’t luck at all. What I didn’t realize at the time (because it was an innate and subconscious process from my advertising experience) was that selling benefits was a success quotient—for not only busi- nesses, but for job seekers as well. After becoming very involved with resume and career organizations, I found that my colleagues were in fact doing the same thing…selling the benefits of their clients’ services to meet their targeted audiences’ needs. And this is one of the reasons resumes prepared by expert professional resume writers are far more successful than resumes written by applicants on their own. I want to pass that knowledge on to you, so that you, too, can prepare a highly successful resume that sells and showcases the benefits of your product and services… you! EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO PUT TOGETHER A WINNING RESUME The Step-by-Step Resumes process contains everything you need to write your resume like a professional resume writer—one step at a time. It includes all of the worksheets, assessment tools, and instructions you will need to craft a winning resume specific to your profession—without having to do a lot of reading or research. You will also find the worksheets and Resume ClipBullets™ on the CD at the back of the book. Easy-to-follow instructions are right where you need them: when you are completing a particular step. This workbook contains in-depth but very concise information (no fluff—only what you need to know) so that you can define and target your goal, assess your skills and attributes, document your responsibilities, identify your achievements, write your professional summary and cover letter, design your resume presentation, and pull it all together to develop a successful resume that gets interviews. It includes hundreds of industry-specific keywords, action verbs (your bullet starters), and descriptive adjectives and adverbs to write your resume effectively…everything you need to build your customized, interview-generating resume. 0000 JJ77778800 SStteeppFFMM 33..iinndddd iixx 66//3300//1100 99::2211::5555 AAMM
