BloomingtonsculptorAndrew Jumonville's worktitled"Convergence ofPurpose" portrays Lincolnengaged inconversation withFell and Davis, twomenwhoplayed acentral role inhis rise tothepresidency. Jumonville attendedthe eventwithhis family. LincolnscholarMichael Burlingame, authorof"AbrahamLincoln: A life," was the keynote speaker forthe dedication ceremony. Inhis speechatthe neighboringBloomingtonCenterforthe PerformingArts, Burlingame toldthe audience thatFell urgedLincolnto forge aheadwithhis political careerdespite a loss forthe Illinois Senate. Atriptothe EastCoastinwhich Lincolnwas mentioned inpolitical circles convinced Fell thatthe Illinois lawyerwas qualified forthe national stage, said Burlingame. Judge Davis was one ofLincoln's closestfriends andadvisors. "Lincolnknew whatthings shouldbe done. Davis knew how theyshouldbe done," saidthe author. Bob Lenz, vice chairmanofthe AbrahamLincolnBicentennial CommissionofMcLeanCounty, said Saturday's speechwas the firstina series ofappearances byLincolnscholars planned forthe TwinCities. The public's devotionto the 16thpresident will remainstronglongafterthe close ofevents markinglastyear's bicentennial ofhis birth, said Lenz. "Lincolnis sucha dominantpersoninAmericanhistory.
