Epigraph “A good stance and posture reflect a proper state of mind.” - Morihei Ueshiba Preface Stand and Deliver teaches you the most practical and effective combat stances needed to survive in today’s violent and potentially deadly world. This book isn’t about sport fighting, flashy moves or traditional rituals. Instead, it arms you with my tactical combat stances and their strategies to protect you and your loved ones from some of the most dangerous forms of street violence. When most people think of a stance, they immediately conjure up images of generic fighting postures taught in most combat sports like boxing, mixed martial arts, and Thai boxing. However, most people don’t realize this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are other strategic combat stances that you must learn and ultimately master if you wish to survive both armed and unarmed encounters on the street. You may think you are prepared to handle a violent street assault. After all, you’re in great shape and have practiced and trained for years for such a situation. But unless you have mastered the principles and strategies featured in this book, you are not as prepared as you should be. Stand and Deliver teaches you exactly what you need to know, so you’ll be prepared if and when that fateful days arrives. Regardless of your background or level of experience. The combat stances and strategies featured in Stand and Deliver are practical and straightforward and can be seamlessly incorporated into your current martial art or self-defense system. As a matter of fact, integrating these principles and their related strategies will significantly improve your odds of prevailing in any self-defense situation. Like my other publications, Stand and Deliver should be treated as a skill- building workbook and strategic outline for combat. Feel free to write in the margins, underline passages, and dog-ear the pages. I also strongly recommend that you read this book from beginning to end, chapter by chapter. Only after you have read the entire book should you treat it like a reference and skip around, reading those sections that interest you. In addition, I have provided a glossary of terms for your convenience. Good luck in your training! - Sammy Franco (www.SammyFranco.com) Chapter One: What You Should Know! THE STANCE - THE FOUNDATION OF EVERY SYSTEM One of the very first things you will learn in any self-defense school is a stance. And for good reason. A stance is a vital component of any fighting system because it’s the foundation for both offense and defense. Any martial arts or self-defense instructor worth his salt will spend a considerable amount of time developing and ultimately perfecting the student’s stance. After all, if the stance is flawed, then so will the related techniques. When I say “stance”, I am generally referring to a strategic posture you would assume prior to or during armed or unarmed combat. When most people think of a stance, they immediately conjure up the image of a generic fighting posture used in a combat sport like boxing, mixed martial arts, or kick boxing. However, most people don’t realize there are many other strategic stances that play a vital role in both armed and unarmed self-defense encounters. This book will, hopefully, shatter some of those preconceived and erroneous notions. A stance serves as the foundation for both offense and defense techniques.
