His Eminence Abp. Khajag Barsamian, Primate of the Eastern Diocese, presided over the day’s events. On this occasion, St. James honored long-time parishioner Paul Korian as the 2011 St. James Parishioner of the Year. Paul received a Pontifical Encyclical (Gontag) and the St. Nersess Shnorhali Medal from His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians. Our parish also celebrated the achievements of the 75th Anniversary Capital Campaign, and expressed sincere gratitude to our faithful parishioners and friends who donated $3 million dollars toward church capital improvements and programming. Paul was involved in the life of St. James from an early age—as an active ACYOA Juniors and ACYOA Seniors member, chairman, and officer. He sang in the St. James church choir, and was ordained a sub-deacon and served on the Holy Altar for over 30 years. He was an active St. James Sunday School PTTTAA mmember,, e m b e r and his service to our parish continued in many capacities over the years, including his election to the Parish Council in 1979 at the young age of 35. Paul has served on the St. James Parish Council for many years, including six years as treasurer and six as chairman. Paul has helped guide the St. James parish through many key events, and ultimately demonstrated his leadership by helping lead an overwhelmingly successful 75th Anniversary Celebration and the record breaking Capital Campaign, resulting in over $3 million being raised for renovations and program funding. A total of 350 parishioners, friends and family of St. James dined on kebab, iman bayaldi and other delicious Armenian foods while enjoying the music of the Ansbigian Ensemble. Special additions to the menu were baked haddock, bulgur pilaf and gatnabour (rice pudding). The evening was overflowing with fellowship, music and dancing. We thank David, Brian and Darren Ansbigian for once again playing and making a special night for all. We also thank all the volunteers on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. We couldn’t do it without you. “Many hands make light work!” Congratulations to the November and January winners of the door prize drawing for a dinner for two at Hye Café.
