f MA % DRAFT ^l/C SOUTH BOSTON INDUSTRIAL FIRM SURVEY Boston Redevelopment Authority and EDIC/Boston The South Boston Industrial Firm Survey was undertaken by EDIC and BRA staff as part of the research pursuant to the development of the Fort Point Channel Interim Planning Overlay District (IPOD) This research also included a land use study for the . area between the Fort Point and Reserved Channels and Bolton Street, including the Boston Marine Industrial Park. The industrial firm survey consisted of interviews with 96 of the 195 industrial firms in subareas A through G of the study area (see attached map) The survey was designed to identify for . planners and policy makers the business needs and plans of these firms and to address the stability of the firms in the face of great changes that will take place in the area. The survey included questions on employment, space needs, transportation, location characteristics, and future business plans. Conclusions are based on a preliminary analysis of the results of the survey. This report groups 178 of the South Boston industrial firms into eight categories: printing/publishing; apparel/textile manufacturing; fish/food processing/distribution; trucking/ transport; wholesale trade/distribution; furniture/wood/paper manufacturing; leather manufacturing; and metals manufacturing. Gillette and the area's machinery manufacturing firms did not participate in the survey, and are not included in this report. In addition, miscellaneous manufacturing firms, which could not be grouped by industry type, have not been included. *> o CO < CO O in P(0 s0) u p 10 0) f k •oa o u c a 3 (0 CD 0) (0 rH <0u) f(lA ^0) JJ T3 W O (A 3 fl) cn u \-P C rH ICT»OJ o 10 •^H Q< 4UOJl T(f3l u22icn CQ C B (0 El 3 C O -P O (fl a (1) cl. p a u E o C 0) Ifl is rH 0) 0) rH J-l-H T3C3 ^b4 1aa0 4XJ < (u Eh \ c 0C>-£H -H W P-H i3 C rH Eh •H J3 ^J 3 04 Cl. c y»a ^o O 40 < CO EOl Eh o (0 £ P r. ..» (0 0) •J O O 3 \ c u 3 (0 CO 0) (0 rH 0) CmO 0) >. o to T3 3 •uP ~v-P c c o o •H a m ;o>i c OoQ-cOH E3u-" H(u0 P 3 -1u0 o u TJ -P (A oa O0-UH) Q c0) icn b.
