The mere mention of food gets me excited and my taste buds go a-tingling. On a serious note, Iam so incredibly proud of the food and drink scene in our county and how it has fought its way through covid. The diversity and willingness to change that so many businesses have shown over the past two years has been nothing short of phenomenal. From pubs and restaurants stepping up and going door-to- door, to cocktail bars taking the drinks directly to those in lockdown and trade suppliers widening their reach to the general public, I’ve seen so much of it. And those who have come out fighting seem to be all the stronger for diversifying their business when they needed to. We at Somerset Life know how tough it has been to totally change the way you operate in order to make it through covid. I will never forget when the lockdown was announced and, with an 18-month-old sent home from childcare, I was sitting pulling massive amounts of content out of the magazine that was about to go to print, as it was irrelevant in a lockdown. And I was frantically rewriting and sourcing content that would be more suited to those stuck at home. We will all have stories to tell future generations, some happy, SAL ti S =a ~NEA many sad, maybe even some quirky ones. But the success story of our county has to be our food and drink scene. Farm shops are now going strong, people seem to have retained their appreciation of indepedent producers and food and drink businesses and I feel like the local food and drink scene is absolutely buzzing, it’s thriving. Every day Iam enjoying learning about a new food and drink business or a new producer. In fact I have been enjoying it so much that lam starting a new food and drink feature in the September edition called Food for Life. lam going to have my finger on the culinary pulse in Somerset and I’ll be bringing all the latest i / Subscribe and get a £10 WATERSTONES e-Gift Card SOMERSET LIFE “ Y food and drink news to you.
