Starting SMART Notebook software
StartSMART Notebooksoftwarebydouble-clickingtheSMART Notebook11icononthedesktop.
WhenyoustartSMART Notebooksoftwarethefirsttime,atutorialfileopensautomatically.Youcan
readthecontentsofthisfiletolearnmoreaboutthesoftwareandthenewfeaturesinthelatest
release.Whenyou’redone,selectFile> Newtocreateanew,blankfile.
NOTE
Whenyoustartthesoftwaresubsequenttimes,anew,blankfileopensautomatically.Toopenthe
tutorialfile,selectHelp> Tutorial.

TheTools panelincludesbuttonsthatenableyoutocreateandworkwithbasicobjectsonpages:
Contextual panel
WhenyouselectoneofthebuttonsintheTools panel,additionalbuttonsappear.Forexample,ifyou
selectPens ,thefollowingadditionalbuttonsappear:
PressthePenTypesbuttontoselectapentypeandthenpressoneofthelinetypebuttonstowrite
ordrawdigitalinkinthatlinetype.Youcancustomizeaselectedlinetypeusingtheoptionsinthe
Propertiestabandthensaveyourchangesforfutureuse(seeSavingtoolsettings onpage59).
Thethreepropertyselectorsbesidethelinetypebuttonsenableyoutosetthecolor,thickness,style
andtransparencyofdigitalink.
IfyouclickanyoftheotherbuttonsintheTools panel,similarsetsofadditionalbuttonsappear.
Customizingthetoolbar
Youcanadd,removeandchangethepositionofbuttonsonthetoolbarbypressingCustomizethe
toolbar (seeCustomizingthetoolbaronpage153).
Bydefault,thetoolbarappearsatthetopoftheSMART Notebooksoftwarewindow.However,you
canmoveittothebottomofthewindowbypressingMovetoolbartotop/bottom ofwindow .
Thisisusefulinsituationswhereyouoryourstudentscan’treachthetoolbarwhenit’satthetopof
thewindow.
