Move the bolt and recoil springa ssem- bly back until it stops,a nd lift it off the receiver. 4. The bolt will probablyb e left in the receiverw hen the carrier and recoil springu nit are rcmoved. Remove for repairs only: to dismantlet he recoil spring,r est the rear tip on a firm surface,p ull back the spring at the front, and move the collar downward until it clearst he button and take it off to the side. Caution: Control the spring. 8. Pusho ut the firing pin retainert oward the risht. *see 9. Removet he firing pin toward the rear. reassemblyti ps for properp lacemento f firing pin. 10. To removet hee xtrac- tor, pushi t to the rearw hile tipping it out to the right. The springi s mountedi nside the rearo f the extractor, and it will come of with it. 11. Insert a drift through the hole in the head of the cleaning rod, lift it out of its locking recess,a nd removei t toward the front. NOT PICTURED The bayoneth inge is if often riveted in place" Remove only for repairs. 12. Be suret he intemal hammeri s in the cockedp osition,a nd the safetyi n the on position. Use a suitablet ool to pusht he trigger guard latch forward. When the latch releases,t he guard will jump out slightly. 13. Removeth et riggerg uardf rom the stock. 14. Thet riggerg uards pringc an be lifted out of its well in the stock. 15. Caution: Theh amnters pring is powerful, bep re- pared or you will haves mashedfingers. Put the safetyi n the off position. Depresst he disconnectora bouth alf way. Control the hammer and pull the trigger. Easet he hammer down to fired position.I f the disconnectoris depressedto o much, you will not be able to place the hammer in the fired position. 16, Caution: Keep a tight grip on the hammer. In- serta sturdyt ool in front of the hammer,a nd usei t to lever the hammeru nit toward the rear until its pivot studsa rec lear of the hooks. Take off the hammera nd its springa nd guide. Holding the unit in a paddedv ise is advisable. t ll . Be careful not to deform the spring. The trigger spring canb e removedb y gripping a forward coil with sharpn osed pliers and compressingi t slightly rearward,t hen tipping it out. 18. Pushingo ut the crossp in will release thed isconnectofor r removal. 19. Squee zet her eboundd isconnectoarn dl ift it out. 20. Drift out the trigger pin, and take out the trigger upward. The safety catch springw ill be attachedt o the trigger(shownt o the right). 21. Only removet he triggerb arf or repairs. *Safety catchs pring showna ttached. 22. Drift out the safety lever pin, and removet he saf'ety. 23. This crossp in at the front of the trigger guard assemblyr etainst he maga- zine catch,t he combination spring, and the sear. Magazinec atcha nd spr-ing(whichp owersb oth the magazinec atcha nd sear) Sear 24. witn a non marringt ool, tum the handguardl atch upward until it is stoppedb y its lower stud in the track. Lift the handguarda nd gasc ylinder assemblya t the rear,a nd removel t. 25. Removeth e gasp istonf rom the cylinder. 26. The gasp oft unit is retainedo n the barrel by a cross pin. In normal takedown, it is left in place. Recommended takedown: ONIJ FOR REPAIRS. 27 . Drift ourr he handguardf errule pin to releaset he handguard.R e- move only for repairs. 28. Grip the magazine assembly,a nd pull it rear- ward and downwardf or removal. Removet he ac- tion from the stock. Continued on next page. For the tightly fitted magazinea ssemblyt ap gently on the magazinet hrough the top of the receiverw hile pulling it to the rear. Do Not Disassembleu nlessf or repairs.T he rear sight assemblyi s retainedo n the barrel by a crossp in, and is driven off toward the front. Drrfting out the hold open latch pin will allow removal of the hold open latch and its spring. 33. Thet riggerg uardl atch,w hich is its own spring,i s retained by a crossp in.A fter removaol f thep in, drivet he latchd own- ward with a drift from the top of the receiver. ReassemblTy ips: When replacing the trigger group in the gun, extremely sharp shouldersa t the rear of the subframem ay causea seating problem. Thesec an be easilyb eveled. Note: For installa- tion of the trigger group, the manuals afetym ust be in the safep osition. Rest the top of the receivero n a firm surface as the guardu nit is pressedin to place. When replacing the firing pin in the bolt, be sure the retainings houlderi s on top. Also be suret he retaineri s orientedt o fit into its recesso n the right side(don ot force the retainingp in) " Shown is the orientation for the firing pin in the bolt.
