Before that he worked for ten years in the corporate finance division of JP Morgan in London, coming to head up their EMEA hotel practice. Simon has a First Class degree in Modern History from Christ Church, Oxford. Oliver Armitstead Savills Oliver has over seven years' experience in the hotel development, operations and consultancy arenas and he has completed assignments in numerous countries across EMEA, Asia, North America and South America. Oliver joined Savills in 2015 from Belmond UK Ltd, formerly Orient-Express, where he spent four years working in the Development team responsible for global growth and repositioning of their hotel and leisure businesses. Within Savills Oliver focuses on UK managed and franchised hotels, European investments and provides strategic investment and development advice. Recent projects, Strategic Advice, Amex Stadium hotel development, Brighton, Sale of Inn at Perry Cabin, USA. Circa $45m, Operator Search for the Cadogan Hotel, London. Surinder Arora Arora Group Surinder, 56, is the Founder and Chief Executive of The Arora Group, which manages seven luxury hotels with over 2,750 bedrooms, across Heathrow and Gatwick airports, Englefield Green near Windsor and Manchester city centre. The Group will open the 18 storey luxury hotel, InterContinental London - The O2 and 100 luxury apartments towards the end of 2015. Facilities will include one of Europe’s largest pillar free ballrooms. The company is also preferred partner for a new hotel development at Heathrow’s Terminal 4. Surinder started the business in 1999 after running a bed and breakfast service near Heathrow for airline staff. In 2012, he purchased the 649 bedroom Renaissance London Heathrow hotel where he had worked as a waiter in the 1970s. Over the years, the group has expanded significantly. The Development division designs and builds hotel projects directly for Arora and indirectly for other Groups. The team manages refurbishment programmes and played lead role in the design and construction of four new budget hotels, the first of which opened in February 2012. The Property arm is involved in commercial real estate to optimise the potential of its extensive portfolio of landmark office buildings and development sites. The team also fulfils a Managing Agent role at Charters, one of the UK’s most exclusive residential developments.www.arorahotels.com Javier Arús Azora Mr. Arús is partner in Azora and responsible of the Hotel platform. Prior to joining the Azora Group in 2010, he worked for 15 years at Banco Santander, where he held different positions in Investment Banking, Asset Management and Private Banking within the Group. In 2004, Mr. Arús was appointed chief executive officer of Banco Santander Suisse and in 2007 chief executive officer of the Santander Private Banking International Division. Mr. Arús obtained a Business and a Law Degree from Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE) and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Karl J. Badstuber AXA Real Estate Karl J. Badstuber joined AXA Real Estate in June 2013 as the pan-European Senior Hotel Specialist focusing on Transactions and Asset Management. Before taking up his current role, Karl worked at Morgan Stanley Real Estate for 5 years as Vice President – Hotels Europe. His previous post was as Managing Director of Hotel Operations at Grand City Hotels & Resorts, which at the time managed and operated over 40 hotels. Prior to that he worked for a number of international hotel companies including InterContinental and Starwood in various senior hotel management positions in Germany, Luxembourg, England and Australia. Karl successfully completed a 2-year management trainee programme with Sheraton Hotel Incorporation and gained his initial hotel operational experience in selected privately owned 5-star hotels in Switzerland (Davos, Lausanne, Ascona), after graduating from the Hotel & Catering College in Merano (Italy). www.axa-realestate.com Trish Barrigan Benson Elliot Capital Management With over 20 years of industry experience, Trish brings a wealth of knowledge in European and US real estate investing. Trish co-founded Benson Elliot with Marc and currently co-heads all investment and asset management activity with Joseph De Leo. Prior to Benson Elliot, Trish spent two years within the Dubai Holding Group as Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global Real Estate Investments for Dubai Investment Group, with responsibility for defining and implementing the Group’s global real estate strategy. Apart from interviewing CEOs and industry experts in the studio, Bojesen is equally active on the global business scene. Cody Bradshaw Starwood Capital Cody Bradshaw is a Senior Vice President at Starwood Capital Group and Head of European Hotels. In this role, he oversees the firm’s hospitality acquisition and asset management activities across Europe. Starwood Capital’s current European hotel portfolio consists of more than 20,000 rooms and $4B in asset value. Prior to joining Starwood Capital, Cody was one of the first employees at Pebblebrook Hotel Trust (NYSE: PEB) where he served as Vice President of Acquisitions during the twelve-month period in which the newly-formed “blind pool” REIT deployed over $1 billion of capital through the acquisition of over 20 major lodging assets. Prior to Pebblebrook, he was the first employee of the Chartres Lodging Group where he played an integral role in growing the firm over a seven year period into what at the time was comprised of five offices across the U.S. and Japan and a 20,000-room, $6 billion portfolio of lodging assets. He began his career at Hyatt Development Corporation after graduating from Cornell University. Cody co-created the Certified Hotel Asset Manager ("CHAM") professional designation program which launched in 2012. He co-founded the European chapter of the Hospitality Asset Managers Association ("HAMA") and is a member of the International Hotel Investment Council (“IHIC”). James E. Burba BHN Jim Burba is the co-founder and president of Burba Hotel Network LLC (BHN), the worldwide leader in developing and producing conferences for the hotel and tourism investment community. BHN hosts ten events each year around the world including: ALIS, ALIS Law, ALIS Summer Update, AOCAP, HICAP, HICAP UPDATE, HIFI, CHRIS, HOLA, and Hot.E. In 2008, BHN and Google teamed up to host Digital Discovery Day (D3) and in 2011, Burba was retained by the ITC, a joint agency of the UN and WTO to help organize WEDF which focused on tourism development in the least developed countries of the world. In 2007, California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, re-appointed Burba to his second term on the California Travel & Tourism Commission and he recently served on its Executive Committee. Currently Nick is based in Starwood Capital’s London office where he is asset managing a number of Starwood’s European investments in the hotel and leisure sector. Previously he worked in Starwood’s European acquisition team where he worked on over $1bn of hotel acquisitions. Prior to joining Starwood, Nick worked at Ernst & Young in the real estate audit department where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Nick holds a Bsc in Economics from the University of York and is a Chartered Accountant. Puneet Chhatwal Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts         Puneet Chhatwal is the Chief Executive Officer of Steigenberger Hotel Group, one of Europe’s leading hotel companies. The group comprises 112 Hotels in operation or under development in 11 countries amongst Europe, Middle East and Asia. The umbrella organization Steigenberger Hotel Group comprises three brands Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts, Jaz in the City and InterCityHotel as well as 3 Cruise Ships operating on the Nile and Nasser Sea. Puneet joined Steigenberger from The Rezidor Hotel Group in November 2012 where he served as the Executive Vice President, Chief Development. Puneet started his career as a Management Trainee with the India Tourism Development Corporation. After several operational positions in India, he studied at ESSEC, France and earned a Master’s Degree in International Hospitality Management to complement his previous bachelor’s degree from the University of Delhi and his 3 years diploma in Hotel Management from IHM Delhi. In 2012, Puneet Chhatwal also completed the AMP (Advanced Management Program) as well as the AMP Capstone at INSEAD (Paris & Singapore respectively). In August 2012, Puneet got the prestigious Carlson Fellowship award and in 2014, he was inducted as the first Alumini in the ESSEC Hall of Honor. Furthermore, Puneet was named as one of the 'Top 20 Extraordinary minds within Sales, Marketing and Technology' by Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI), Europe in 2015. Puneet is also a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality (FIH). Choe Peng Sum Frasers Hospitality Group Pte Ltd Mr Choe Peng Sum, 54, brings with him over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry. As Chief Executive Officer of Frasers Hospitality Group Pte Ltd since its inception in 1996, he has overall charge of the business performance and global expansion of a chain of serviced, hotel residences and boutique hotels worldwide. Today, Frasers Hospitality Group Pte Ltd is one of a leading and globally-awarded hospitality organisation with over 129 properties across 77 key gateway cities worldwide. Mr Choe started his career in the hospitality industry with Westin and subsequently Shangri-La International in 1981, where he was awarded the Shangri-La overseas scholarship. He graduated from Cornell University (Ithaca, New York) with a Bachelor of Science with Distinction. He was awarded the National Dean’s List (USA) as well as the Phi Kappa Phi for academic excellence. Outside work, Mr Choe is also actively involved as a Governing Council member of the Singapore Quality Awards, Spring Singapore, Singapore’s business representative to ASEAN in the East Asia Business Council, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Crest Secondary School. Mr Choe is married with two daughters, and he enjoys reading and working out at the gym. Page 4 of 21 Speakers as of 24 September 2015   Jean-Philippe Chomette Algonquin Jean-Philippe Chomette, 50, is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Algonquin Group which he founded in 1998. Algonquin is an investor and operator of hotel properties through subsidiaries, investment funds and joint ventures that it creates with institutional investors, private equity funds, family offices and HNWI across Europe. Algonquin’s portfolio of owned properties currently comprises 37 hotels in four European countries, totalling more than 4,500 rooms in the up-scale and mid-scale segments, including 23 directly operated hotels (2,000 rooms). Prior to founding Algonquin, Mr. Chomette worked in Investment and Finance at Banque Paribas and Everest Capital Limited in North America. He studied at ESSEC Business School of which he graduated in 1986 and lives in London. Philip Coggan The Economist Philip Coggan is the Capital Markets Editor of The Economist, where he writes the Buttonwood column. He was awarded the title of Senior Financial Journalist in the Harold Wincott awards, and won the category for best personal finance story at the Business Journalist of the Year Awards. Philip was previously Investment Editor of The Financial Times, and wrote the Long View and the Last Word columns. In previous positions at the FT he has been market editor, economics correspondent, personal finance editor and the Lex columnist. He is the author of The Money Machine: How the City works, Easy Money, and the Economist Guide to Hedge Funds. Alfonso Colomina Fajardo Banco Santander Alfonso joined Global Banking and Markets division at Banco Santander in 2006. Previously he started his professional carrier in the Merger & Acquisition advisory business for Deloitte (Madrid) and Deutsche Bank (London), after achieving his degree in Business Administration, major in Finance, at Universidad Ponticífica de Comillas (Madrid). Since June 2014 he is responsible for Hotels and Retail sectors clients as Senior Banker. Previously he has also been Head of Global Infrastructure Financing (2009-12) and Head of Real State and LBOs Financing for Iberia (2013-14). Chip Conley Airbnb The founder and former CEO of Joie de Vivre Hospitality, Chip Conley began reinventing hotels at age 26, taking an inner city motel and turning it into the 2nd largest boutique hotel brand in the world. He has overall responsibility for all Christie + Co's specialist transactional and advisory activities. Andrea De Simone Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing Andrea is responsible for the financing activity of MSREI investments in Europe, including sourcing, structuring and negotiation of loans across various jurisdictions, with particular focus on United Kingdom, France and Italy. In his role Andrea is also responsible for maintaining and developing lenders relationships for MSREI. Since joining Morgan Stanley in 2003, Andrea worked across different divisions of the Firm, including Investment Banking and Fixed Income, always in the real estate space. He worked for the MSREI acquisition team, the Real Estate banking team and the Securitised Product Group, acquiring an understanding of the European real estate market both from an equity and debt perspective. Florence Defradas Baker & McKenzie Florence Defradas joined the Real Estate Practice Group of Baker & McKenzie SCP in 2006. She assists private companies and financial institutions on corporate transactions and mergers and acquisitions, as well as the legal structuring of investment funds. She regularly advises on real estate operations, including the sale or acquisition of real estate companies, as well as the sale and lease back of real estate assets. Florence is also a member of our Hotels, Resorts and Tourism Group and has particular experience in negotiating hotel management agreements. Paul Dittmann M&G Investments Paul Dittmann is the head of the senior commercial mortgage finance group with M&G Real Estate Financing Group. Paul joined M&G Investments from Barclays Capital where he was a member of the European Real Estate Financing Group. Paul focused on building BarCap's continental European platform. Paul moved to BarCap from Goldman Sachs where he established Goldman's European Commercial Property Finance Department in 2002 after establishing the European Real Estate Mortgage Securitisation group at Citigroup/SSSB in 1996. Paul has been active in real estate finance since 1994. Paul received his M.B.A. in Finance and Investments from University of Wisconsin and a Master of Science degree specialising in Commercial Real Estate Finance and Development from University of Wisconsin. Miroslav Dragicevic Horwath HTL Croatia Miroslav Dragicevic, after earning the PhD in Economics at the Department of Economics of the University of Zagreb founded Horwath HTL hotel, tourism and leisure consultancy practice for South- East of Europe which is today, with offices in Zagreb and Belgrade, the leading consultancy in the Region. During the past 25 years, M.Dragicevic was carrying out numerous tourism and hotel development projects in more than 30 countries with particular emphasis in emerging South-East Europe and CIS countries. By creating the relationships with international sources of know-how and applying the modern asset and operational management concepts in hospitality in emerging countries , Dr. Dragicevic has been actively promoting the development of tourism and hotel industry in countries in transition, like Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Serbia, Romania, Moldova, Georgia, Kazakhstanp, Bulgaria, Macedonina and Bosnia and Hercegovina. He has been the project director of numerous tourism and master plans on national and regional level and of the key asset management plans and development projects in hotel and tourism industry. M. Dragicevic was and still is an active speaker at numerous hotel and tourism business and professional conferences around the globe. Dr. Dragicevic is a member of ISHC (International Society of Hospitality Consultants). Sarah Duignan STR Global Ltd Sarah departed Irish shores in May 2005 having spent seven years in Hotel operations. She joined the HotelBenchmark team at Deloitte in London as a Business Development Executive and as the team re-structured came to manage a number of key international clients in the Account Management team. STR Global was formed in March 2008 following the merger of the HotelBenchmark team with The Bench and Smith Travel Research. Sarah now heads up the Account Management team as Director of Account Management, she regularly attends and presents at Hotel Group and Industry events. She holds an Honours Degree in Translation (German & Spanish) from Dublin City University. Cedric Durand HotelInvest Cedric Durand, 44, graduated from the European Business School (Paris), began his career in the finance sector in 1994 for Generali Group. He joined Accor Group in 1999. Within 15 years, he was in charge of finance for several regions. He was appointed in 2004, CFO for Accor Services in France and developed new partnerships. In 2007, he joined the Africa & Middle East division and performed an IPO in Morocco, Debt Equity Swap operations in Middle East and asset management plans in Africa. In 2010, he was appointed CFO for Accor hotels in France in charge of asset management. Since 2014, he is COO HotelInvest France especially in charge of asset disposals, restructuring and Portfolio Management. Page 7 of 21 Speakers as of 24 September 2015   Peter Ebertz Art-Invest Real Estate Dr. Peter Ebertz is Managing Partner at Art-Invest Real Estate and heads the firm’s hotel investment division. Art-Invest disposes of a range of investment vehicles; with its dedicated hotel fund Peter acquired eleven hotels in the last two years with a total volume of EUR 300 Mio. including the Sofitel Alter Wall Hamburg and the Le Méridien Parkhotel Frankfurt. With a total volume of roughly EUR 500 Mio., the German Spezialfonds is expected to further grow its hotel real estate portfolio in Germany and Western Europe. Peter’s background includes hotel operational experience as well as investment banking and strategy consulting. Before joining Art-Invest Peter was project manager with E&P Real Estate GmbH & Co. KG where he oversaw project developments and transactions within a 1.5 billion hotel portfolio comprising of approx. 50 hotels. Peter Ebertz studied economic sciences and holds a PHD and Executive MBA from the University of Münster. Frank Fiskers Scandic Hotels Frank Fiskers, 53 and a Danish national, is President & CEO of Scandic Hotels, one of Europe´s largest hotel operators. The company currently has almost 230 hotels in operation and development in seven countries and close to 12,000 employees. Frank became CEO of Scandic in October 2013. For two years Frank was President & CEO of Coop/KF, Sweden. Prior to that he was a partner at Azure Property Group, London. In April 2007 Frank became CEO of Scandic Hotels as part of a private equity buy-out, a position he held until September 2010. For six years Frank was with Hilton as Vice President based in Frankfurt, Stockholm, London and Johannesburg. He was also for a number of years with Rezidor in various senior operational positions - latest as Vice President, Nordic Countries. Frank received his formal education in Copenhagen and has attended various educational programs at Cornell University, London Business School, and IMD. Peter Gowers Travelodge Peter Gowers is the Chief Executive of Travelodge. He graduated from Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Podgorica. Back in nineties he started his professional career in Development Secretariat of Montenegro, where he coordinated a team of young experts that initiated the IT development in Montenegro based on new ICT platforms. Following this he was appointed as the Assistant Secretary in the Secretariat and in 1999 he was appointed as the Director of Post Office of Montenegro. In 2001 he was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro for Economic Policy and Economic Development and he served total of three terms of office. During this period, he served as the Mayor of Bar for 18 months. After the parliamentary elections in 2009 he entered the new Government as the Minister of Spatial Development and Environmental Protection and he served in the office until the end of 2010. From February 2011 until December 2012, Mr. Gvozdenovic acted as the Political Director of Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro. In addition to this, during his professional career Mr. Gvozdenovic acted as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Electric Power Company of Montenegro and Board Member of Post Office of Montenegro. He was a Member of the Parliament of Montenegro in several terms. He is the member of the Democratic Party of Socialist’s Presidency. In addition, he is the member of several associations and theme societies. His professional affinities are related to intensifying economic and democratic development of Montenegro, and to assisting in the process of accelerating European and Euro-Atlantic integrations of Montenegro. Mr. Huang is an expert in hotel marketing, operation and other related sectors. He used to work as General Managers of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, covering most of China’s fine markets, including Beijing, Tsingtao, Xi’an, Wenzhou, Fuzhou, etc. In his current capacity, Mr. Huang is in charge of development and operations of all hotels under the HKCTS Hotel Group.
