Taylor & Francis Taylor & Francis Group http://taylorandfrancis.com Acknowledgments Getting this manual and Performance Tracking and Improvement into a usable form took incredible encouragement and support over a three-year period. The project w as catalyzed by Ted Swenson of The Dow Chemical Company who gave us "one more corporate project" before retiring to a Colorado mountain hideaway. Jon Walker and Robert Rogers were supportive Dow Chemical training managers who patiently kept asking when the original Dow shiftwork program would be finished. Gene Lowe was the Dow representative and former plant shiftworker w ho surveyed hundreds of corporate shiftworkers around the country, then supported, nurtured, and piloted the original two-hour TIME TRAVELERS, F.A.S.T. Tracking p rogram. We owe a tremendous amount of human insight t o Charlie Kilsby, a local industrial Gulf Coast barber, who has interviewed more 24-hour employees albeit m ale-than nearly anyone else w e k new. Mr. Kilsby has added a personal depth to our research t hat w e could n ot h ave achieved o therwise. Also: Bob Nute, NASA Flight Activity Operations; Diana Ormsbee, NASA News Department; and V incent J . Mellone, ASRS Deputy Program Manager, were instrumental w ith t heir a dvice a nd t echnical a ssistance. The c ustomers, w ho r isked running t he F.A.S.T. Tracking p rogram early in the game which gave us tremendous encouragement and led t o the writing of this manual. Drs. Graeber, Merten of t he FAA, and Hauri of t he Mayo Clinic, and the many other researchers who gave us much needed materials, research data, and encouragement.
