That theme is picked up in this yearbook and, fittingly, we are encouraged to think ofthe importance ofthe background work and of how the unseen efforts, the unselfish and unglamorous tasks, the unsung heroes and the quiet dedication of those who’ve committed to the cause, all play a crucial part in the creation of the desired whole. We see the same message reinforced in all walks of life whether it be in sports, with the depth of “the bench”, or in business with the recurring theme ofeveryone’s role in “the sale” being impor- tant, from the first encounter to the last. At Shawnigan, we don’t like to think of ourselves as selling anything but rather as creating something worthwhile to which people will want to subscribe because it is valid, real and thor- oughly wholesome. Everyone at Shawnigan can add to the experience in ways large and small, good and bad - that’s what the building of a community is all about. Last year at Closing Day, I quoted from a book which expressed the desire ofschools to seek the “moral agency” that would permit the students to act the right way because they felt it was the right way not because we, the staff and parents, were watching “Only then will students go on to make wise and principled , decisions even when they are on their own - even when the teachers are no longer watching.” That remains our aim and the possible success of it is nowhere better exemplified than in the back- ground ofwhat happens. congratulate the School on an excellent year, one ofwhich the graduat- I ing class should be particularly proud. -Mr. David Robertson, Headmaster r a ^.t’nShVM^fiH ' y*r~-£-4 .^nJtT/7^YHeaP jLiJ i ir ember TaianoAndrew AntoineBailey MarianaBarbara-Mijares Takeshi Barnes JuanCarlos Barroso Pablo Barroso AndyBerks BrelanBoyce BriannaCarter MartinaCartner OliverChapman WeiChen JenniferCook Heidi deJager G Benjamin DelBarrio YopoGaxiola R DuncanGeddes FernandoGonzalez JuanGordon HamishGray LuluGuadagnuolo AliHennig CamilleHunt 7 6
