That's why life at Shawnigancanbemoredemandingthanitisinmanyother schools,but, ultimately,morerewardingtoo. This yearhas been ahugely importantoneforour school with the adventofMarion Hall making us more awarethaneverofthesenseofcommunitythatisfundamentaltotheShawniganexperience.Itfeels asthoughwehaverecoveredsomethinglostorperhapsmislaid.TheHall andtheQuadrangleare bothdesignedtopull the schooltogetherandthey havesucceededadmirably, strengtheningthe senseofbelonging.Thegraduatingclassof2003 shouldreflectwithsomeprideontheircontribu- tionstotherelationshipsthathavebeenproductivelyandsuccessfullyformed.Theyhavesetavery fineexample. Iftheschool stayswiththeminthewayofTennyson's,"IamapartofallthatIhave met"oreven, "AllthatIhave livedis apartofme"then I lookforwardtokeepingintouch inthe yearstocome. Ifit'svalid, keepitvital, and I,forone, hopethatitisboth. Manyofthefacesfrom the ever growing Shawnigan Staff'. Staff m MATHEMATICS Math, as always was a yearofnumbers, numbersand more numbers. DepartmentalStaff Mr. Cox Ms.Woollven Mr. Coxcontinuedto stump Mr. Fraser Mrs. Piatt Mrs.Dalrymple Mr.Dukelow thegrade 12's(aswell as TinkerandDon)withCalcu- Mr.Chicquen Mr. Bryant lusraps. Mrs. Dalrymplehad Mr. Pasquale the best-decorated classroom with student posters. Mr. Chicquen, when he showed up on time, made his students addWITHOUTcalculators. Mrs. Piattran herzooofaclass withcanine help. Mr. Dukelow was abletoincorporaterugby wordproblems into each lesson. Ms. Woollven had a stash oflollipops to bribe us into working. Mr. Fraser, when notaway on agolforhockey outing, hadhis classes help him with each sport pool he ran. The angles involved in each basketball move was Mr. Pasquale's specialty. Mr. Bryant triedto show his grade 8's that complaining debating isjust as important as mathwork. Within thehomeofthe Shaw ScienceCenter,the Science Departmentoffers avarietyofprogramsthatinclude Biology, Chemistry, PhysicsandCompu- terScience(heldinthemain building). Eachofthe labsareoutfitted withall the equipment needed to fulfill the needs ofevery subject. There is also plenty ofspace outside the buildings to participate in outdoor lab work (this is a favourite ofthe student body). These outdoor labs include: shooting offrockets, launching water balloons from catapults, dropping stuff out windows, exploring and studying thewildlifearoundbeautifulLake Omar,andmanyothers... He spoke to us while tensions Mr. Detchon werebuildingup inthe Persian Gulf,just before the warbroke out. Dr. Gary, asurvivorofthe holocaust, empowered ustoeliminateracismand hatred from ourlives. We listened to his emotional documentary which focused on the nightmares ofthe holocaust. Electives contain avariety of different classes that develop free thinking andcreativity. Theelective program contains courses ranging fromGraphicDesigntoEconomics, Band to PhysEd.
