BOLLMAN i i Another year has gone, rolled swift away; I And still the circling sphere which we call earth Tells of a day each time the sun appears; Thus from duration without end we clip Small parts and call them hours, days, and years. But Nature, in her mighty sweep, reeks not Of fractions thus so small, but lives in the / (cid:9) Eternal NOW, with God himself who made II(cid:9) All things by power of his word alone, And who the end from the beginning saw; For, being infinite, he comprehends I(cid:9) Alike infinity of time and space,(cid:9) ' And knows our every thought, yea, knows before I(cid:9) That thought is born of our weak mind ! I(cid:9) Nor does this even half the truth unfold; I(cid:9) With him is no beginning and no end ! 1 I(cid:9) We stagger at this thought, we only half Can think ! Amazed we grope in darkness all— The finite never can the Infinite ,(cid:9) Contain, nor grasp the things as far removed I(cid:9) From us as East from West, as North from South ! Lord, awed by thought of majesty divine, I humbly bow my knee before thy throne: I(cid:9) Help me throughout this year of grace still free, To place my hand confidingly in thine, I(cid:9) .1(cid:9) To live and walk with thee from day to day; For how can I, imperfect and unwise, Choose my own path, or live my life alone ? I — The Watchman. I O PREFACE Tins is the twenty-second issue of the denominational Year Book. As this cause develops from year to year, changes in the general direct- ory are necessary to indicate the growth of the various departments of work. During the past year many changes have occurred, a number of new organizations, conferences, and missions have been effected, and new fields entered, so that the total force of workers enlisted has been considerably increased. The extent of this work is clearly shown by the following pages, which indicate that in every continent, in every clime, and in almost every important country, this cause has repre- sentatives, laborers, and facilities for heralding the message which it bears to the world. Truly the sun never sets on this work. The present standing and development of this work, as to organizations and institutions, are indicated below, with the increase noted during 1912: — Present Increase number during 1912 Union Conferences (cid:9) 25 2 Union Missions (cid:9) 3 0 Local Conferences (cid:9) 126 10 'Local Missions (cid:9) 103 10 Educational Institutions (cid:9) 91 2 Publishing Houses (cid:9) 38 Periodicals (in 28 languages) (cid:9) 121 Languages in which publications are issued ... 71 1 Sanitariums and Treatment Rooms (cid:9) 103 1 Food Companies and Cafes (cid:9) 16 Total Union and Local Conferences and Missions (cid:9) 257 Tot al Institutions (cid:9) 248 Grand Total (cid:9) 505 The changes in territorial lines are so frequent that it is impos- sible to issue maps to indicate conference and mission boundary lines that remain in effect for any considerable time. Such maps have there- fore been omitted in this issue. An interesting feature of this issue is -the historical summary, by a study of which one may obtain a comprehensive statement of the important events occurring in connection with the development of this cause during the past seventy years, while the statistical tables enable one to find almost any important statistical item regarding this work for the past fifty years. Directories may be found on the following pages: — Conferences (cid:9) 5-149 Institutions (cid:9) 150-202 Laborers (cid:9) 203-230 Historical and Statistical Summaries (cid:9) 231-280 Fundamental Principles and General Conference Constitution ... 281-289 For reference to any particular division, see the index, pages 290-294. For changes made in directories while the work on this issue was in progress, see page 295. moM1111111.0=111.1111,11111RIMMIIIIIIIMMITIMIMI DOmmintni=1/3 GENERAL CONFERENCE OFFICE BUILDING I +111.111M10•11011110111=110••1101011/11MOMMItIWInranitiinirritl/nni MMOONIMICIMMY00111111MUMMIIIMMICWOU Directory o f the S eve n t h.d ay Adventist Denomination.
