Expat Living was set up to make your move as Reasy as possible, providing interviews with fellow expats about their choices as well as general tips and directories. Our comprehensive City Guide is really focused on newcomers and is updated continually online at www.expatliving.sg. Finding the right home is the first step to getting started. It can make a huge difference to your experience. Our guide introduces you to the various neighbourhoods, gives you an idea of rental prices and lets you know if it’s an easy commute to work, schools or the shops. Getting the right advice from your agent is all-important; this is why we set up Expat Realtor with a team of people who’ve been through the same overwhelming task. When we moved here, we purchased some pretty awful furniture without visiting other homes first to see what was available. We were stuck with what we’d bought and it warped within six months. So you won’t make the same mistake, we go through the keyhole into expats’ homes in our monthly magazine and on our website to show you the fantastic furniture and accessories that are available here. What you’ll find in this guide is just the tip of the iceberg, but hopefully it’s enough for you to see that you don’t have to bring much from home! Once you have the basics in place, you’ll probably look at whether or not you need a car, what is and isn’t covered by insurance, and how you intend to look after any medical needs. Then there’s the matter of placing your children in the right school. In these areas, too, we have interviewed people who have made choices they’re happy with and who can recommend services and products to you. When you’re feeling a bit more settled, you’ll want to explore the more leisurely side of expat life and begin to plan your first Southeast Asian trip. Again, it’s good to get some recommendations from others who’ve been in the same boat (literally, if we’re talking about a weekend escape to Bintan!). F or all of this and everything else, we wish you good luck.
