r 2 EL V oe > y e Ld CHERRY Hi ie eee ae ates Ne Miniature Roses 1937 — 1997 Sequoia Nursery was founded by Ralph Moore on February 28, 1937 with $800, a few hundred rose bushes, and a dream. A general nursery at first ~ rose breeding was the top priority. Mr. Moore soon bred and introduced the first “bred in America” minia- ture roses — which became the basis for the American Miniature Rose Industry. Ralph Moore Through his vision and guidance, over 400 miniature and other rose hybrids have been developed and introduced by Sequoia Nursery. Many have been grown world-wide and several have been used by other breeders to develop their own varieties. From our innovative breeding here at Sequoia Nursery have come many new miniatures, repeat flowering bush type, moss roses, mini and other type climbers and striped roses. Also, such varieties as ‘Playgirl’ (F), ‘Topaz Jewel’ (yellow rugosa). ‘Linda Campbell’ (red rugosa), the new ‘Red Fairy’ (Pol) and others have originated here. ' Recently we have developed a new rse line we call HALO™ Roses. See front cover for the newest in this group named ‘HALO™ Sunrise’. In recognition of his work over the years, Ralph Moore has been the recipient of the ARS Gold Honor Medal, The Dean Hole Medal (Great Britain), Australian Rose Society Gold Medal, and the Gold Medal of the World Organization of Rose Societies, plus numerous other honors, including the Research Award (1987) of the California Association of Nurserymen. So we here at Sequoia Nursery are proudly introducing for your enjoyment our most recent developments — all specially selected to honor our 60th Anniversary.
