ATIBI Digitized by the Internet Archive in 2018 with funding from Albert College https://archive.org/details/seniorschoolal2007albe Published in Canada Printed in the USA W ith all the hype this year about Facebook and with the immi¬ nent release of Sony's 3-D "neighbourhood", the idea of an old-fashioned, hardcover yearbook may seem almost passe, but some concepts have proven themselves to stand the test of time. T he Development Office has a wall of yearbooks, or "Alibis", as they are called, and every time an alumnus returns to Albert College, sooner or later we end up in the Development Office look¬ ing through old Alibis for photos of friends and teachers. From the time of the first cave drawing, our ancestors have tried to record history so they could re-visit it. The explosion in sales of digital cameras and camera-phones speaks to our continuing desire to record our lives, and yearbooks are one tried and true way of doing so. B etween these covers you will find a record of the events that shaped the school year 2006-07. Starting at Camp Wanakita where the Oompa Loompas "clarified" the school's rules for newcomers, and continuing through to "Grease" where the cast told us a few things about "breaking the rules", it has been a busy year and your yearbook crew has tried to capture in words and pictures the year that was. S o much has happened since we first came together at Camp Wanakita in September. Almost every student has, at one point or another, represented Albert College in athletic competition, some on four or five different teams! Those same students have been in plays, sung in choirs, performed in musical ensembles, participated in Model U.N.'s, displayed their art in competitions ... the list goes on. This year we also added a few new service opportunities and even had a group go off on an international 'Service trip to the Dominican Republic! One of the true strengths of Albert College is that our students have the opportunity to participate in so many different activities. In any given activity, some of you may have become experts while others may not have made it beyond novice, but I know that through the process, each one of you has found a place to shine. A s engaged as our students are in the many programs offered at Albert College, no one student will have been personally involved in all aspects of the school so this Alibi should serve to fill in the blanks. Speaking as someone on the far side of fifty who still has all his high school yearbooks lined up in his bookcase, I can assure you there is something about looking back through old yearbooks that is unlike any other form of nostalgia: innocent moments captured in time, unaffected by what is yet to be. I know you will enjoy scanning these pages now and in the years to come. When it comes to Mr. Krieger. this is what former students remember the most. He has a dry sardonic wit that could have been biting, but was always accompanied by a knowing grin. Mr. Krieger is an amazing man, a wonderful teacher and huge part of the Albert College community. The best teachers in this world go be¬ yond merely conveying designated material. Instead they teach you how to think and broaden your mind. They show you that there is an entire world which awaits you and encourage you to explore. They inspire. Mr. Krieg¬ er is undoubtedly such a teacher. I cherish all of the jokes, philosophical conversations and worldly insights he has provided both to me and to generations of other students. Thank you Mr. Krieger; may you have a delightful retirement! Anna Akkerman ’03 To capture the essence of a man and his years of service to the Albert College community in a few brief lines is a daunting, probably impossible task. The thought of not having you here next year is for me a very sad and disappointing reality. I thank you for your years of counsel, support, wisdom, wry sense of humour and most importantly your friendship. Who will ever forget your ‘Turkey Day’ celebration, K & K productions, creative dining hall seating plans, wine tasting lessons, or call of “you are such a turkey” echoing from your classroom. Knowing how organized and thoroughly well-prepared you are, T think it is ironic that your chose to retire after ‘33’ years of service and dedication. No doubt the students of the 90’s would agree. Au revoir mon ami extraordinaire. Molly McIntyre
