Thank you very much for downloading this book. This book contains concepts which I have developed, contemplated, stolen, and refined over the course of many years. Typically, one forms their ideas about the world from pondering, mistakes, past failures and successes. If you apply these concepts, your inner landscape will become all the much richer. Some of these concepts do require effort, some require facing uncomfortable feelings, or challenging assumptions, but if you take these new paradigms, think about them, and put them in place, you will experience great success in the year 2016! The book is divided into subgroups to help organize the material. The first is the big picture, a more general scope of concepts that overlap into several areas of life. The second is on determining your life purpose, or clarifying it if you aren't 100% about it. The third is about setting and attaining your goals, which is the most important skill there is., The fourth is about treating reality on its terms; how to look at the world in an objective way in order to draw all the benefits that the world can offer. The fifth is about dealing with emotions; since emotions are always running in the background and affecting your decisions, learning to harness these emotions and aligning them with your goals and purpose will be of great benefit. The sixth is about improving your relationships; this section contains some lesser-known advice about improving your relationships; people play an important role in your life. It is best that you learn to maximize the benefit you receive (and contribute) in every interaction. Are you ready? Let's begin. I - The Big Picture This section covers concepts that will give you an over-view of your life. These concepts are general to the extent that they could not fit into any specific section. They are also universal, so it's useful to learn them first. These concept will apply to the other sections of this book. Keep referring to these concepts while reading the following sections (purpose, goals, reality, etc.) in order to benefit from them. 1) You're Going to Die; Design Your Life Off of That Fact Golly! We're already diving into death when it comes to a book on self- improvement. Death is a concept that is crucial to contemplate. You should try to think about death often ,despite the fact that people want to avoid it whenever possible. This concept was covered in depth in Stephen Covey's book "7 Habits of Highly Effective People". His second habit, intitled "Begin With the End in Mind", was a mental exercise that was designed to help people get a big picture view of their life. When Covey says to keep "the End in Mind", the message would carry more meaning if it were called "THE END". Our death. The chapter begins by asking you to visualize your own funeral; you are in your casket, presumably dead, and the rest is up to you. Who is attending? What are they saying about you and your life? What is the emotional setting; filled with memories and well-wishes, or people who've met you, but didn't really get to know you? Additionally, you will have four people speaking at your eulogy; one is your spouse or significant other, one is your boss or employer, the other two are close members of the community. What do they say about you? Which of your values do they mention? If these values differ from how you'd like to be remembered, what do you make of that? This exercise serves a purpose, which is to shake you out of the mundane day-to- day habits that you run through in your life, and to focus on the big picture. The mental trap that we fall into is that we have high and worthy ideals, but we wind up living an alternate life that actualizes none of those ideals due to short- term practicality. Do you consider love and care as a high ideal, but stew over trivial matters and gossip? Do you claim to value learning, but waste hours in front of the television? Do you consider yourself disciplined, but check your email thirty times a day? Do you value tolerance, but discriminate by race? Living with a deep incongruence leads to enormous wastes of energy by having to reconcile the differences. Justifying one or the other means that you'll be jumping from your ideals to your actions and applying them differently for each idea at your convenience. This exercise has a second feature which serves to remind you that you live only once, and that you have the opportunity to live the life you want. Ask yourself earnestly: "What do I want to accomplish in my life?". Also, "Am I currently taking steps to accomplishing it?". If you are not clear, then there is some inner work that you must do. Don't waste your life with things that don't matter to you. Exercise - Sit down with a pen and paper, and write a list of values that you would like to embody and how you'd like to be remembered. - Ask yourself: "If I could accomplish one thing before I die, what would that thing be?". You may have multiple answers to this question. This is similar to a bucket list.
