List of Assets of the College Self Appraisal Report St. Joseph’s college of Education, Mysore Preface St. Josephs College of Education was named after St. Joseph, its Patron Saint. The College was founded in 1971, by the late Bishop of Mysore; the Most Rev.Dr.Mathias Fernandes. Coupled with the visionary zeal of the founder, and the dynamism of the founder Secretary, Rev Fr. Dennis Noronha, the college was established on the firm foundation of the motto of ' Love, Loyalty and Service’. It is situated on the Mysore- Mercara State high way in Mysore City. This seat of learning overlooks the picturesque Chamundi hills and is adjacent to the Manasagangothri campus. St. Joseph’s College of Education is one of the 121 educational institutions governed by Mysore Diocesan Educational Society (M.D.E.S) and has a rich experience of more than sixty years in the field of managing colleges and schools in the southern districts of Karnataka. At present, the college is efficiently managed under the patronage of His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Antony Vazhapilly, Bishop of Mysore and the dynamic leadership of the Secretary and the Correspondent Rev. Fr. Thomas Becket D’Souza. The college is affiliated to the University of Mysore. The college is a Roman Catholic Institution, and enjoys the status of a religious minority. Admissions are open to all without discrimination on the basis of caste, creed and race. The college is founded with the lofty ideal of preparing quality teachers for the schools of the country particularly rural schools. It does not just aim at training teachers but aims at training students to become good and efficient citizens of the country so that they could actively participate in the national reconstruction. The institution stands for certain universally accepted values, such as respect for every person, love and peace, tolerance, co-operation, sharing and solidarity with the nation and the society. The college, which is 43 years old, has been recognized as a reputed institution catering to the needs of both urban and rural secondary schools by providing the much needed expertise through its training programmes. By the high standard it has set up, the college has earned a name for itself in the State of Karnataka and the country as a whole.
