Los Andes, she writes the ‘‘Sonetos de la muerte’’ (Sonnets of
Death).
 WinstheNationalFlowerAwardinaprestigiouspoetrycontest.
Adopts‘‘GabrielaMistral’’asaliterarypseudonym.
– Holds various positions as professor and educational adminis-
trator, including that of principal in Temuco, where she meets
theyoungPabloNeruda.
Publishes widely in literary magazines, including fi(cid:10)y-five
piecesinthetextbookseriesLibrosdeLectura.
