Innoregardisitanattempttosuggest that Gerard Manley Hopkins, Walter Pater, Oscar Wilde, or the aesthetic creationstheyproducedcanbereducedtoasinglemotiveormotif,however laudatoryoranathematicalthatmotiveormotif. Sincewritersofthiscalibremay rightlybesaidto'containmultitudes',anencompassingperspectiveontheirlives andworksrequiresalegionofconsiderationsandapproachesdistinctfrom,as well as complementary to the monothematic engagement to follow.
