A newspecies ofthe microlepidopterousfamilyScythrididae, Scythris richterisp. n., is described. The type localityissituatedinthesouthofVelebitinCroatia.ThenewspeciesisexternallysimilartoScythristaygeticolaScholtz,1997 butlacksthepalespotattheapex.ItmayalsobeconfusedwithScythrishornigii(Zeiler,1855)butdiffersexternallybythe whitishstreakintheforewingnotreachingtheapexbutendingatthetermentwomillimetresbeforethetipofwing.Themale genitaliadiffer,forinstance,byastraightrowoflarge,stoutbristlesontheuncus.ThetypeserieswasfoundinAugustatan elevationofca.1200m,butthebiologyisotherwiseunknown. Description of imago (Fig. 1): Wingspan 14-17 mm. dorsallygreyishwithslightlypalerhindmargins,ventrally Headgreywithfaintbrowntinge. Gnathos two slightly bent, distally widening times as long as forewing, dark brownish dorsally, bandsfused subapically,distalextension attipshallowly ventrally whitish along a thin line to about middle of bifurcate with two unequal points, lower one longer, flagellum; cilia short, c. onethird offlagellum diameter; slender and curved at tip. Valvae diverging, each one scape underneath white. Collar cream white but in slightly bent and somewhat constricted in middle, apex middlegreyish.Tegulacontrastinglycoloured, whitish in round and with short, ventral "beak". Phallus almost inner half, dark brownish in outer part. Thoraxfuscous, straightorslightlycurved,insignificantlytaperedapically, laterallyandposteriorlyslightlypaler.Forewingbrownish tip obliquely truncate. Vincular extension (saccus) sub- with a distinct, whitish streakfrom wingbaseto middle rectangular with longitudinal reinforcement. Sternum 8 of termen, slightly bent and evenly broad; costa from semi-circular with pair of diverging, posterior "horns"; middle with a thin, cream-coloured streak, apically anterior margin of S8 concave. Tergum 8 a flat, widening; costal fringes cream-coloured, fringes along subtrapezoidplatewithroundlateralcorners. termen fuscous, somewhat darkening towards tornus. Femalegenitalia:Unknown. Forewingundersidedarkfuscous,frommiddleofcostaa cream line of same shape and coloration as on dorsal Distribution: Only recorded from the type locality, side.
