Printedonacid-freepaper SpringerispartofSpringerScience+BusinessMedia(www.springer.com) Preface ThisbookpresentsanaccountoftheScientificComputinginElectricalEngineering conference,SCEE2010,whichtookplaceinToulouse,September2010.TheSCEE series of conferences covers many aspects of mathematics applied to electrical engineering, including electronics, electrical networks and electromagnetics. It started as a nationalmeeting in 1997in Germanyandthe first two meetingswere organisedundertheauspicesoftheDeutscherMathematikerVereinigung.Thetitle SCEE appeared for the first time in 2000 and since then the conference has been heldeveryotheryearandindifferentEuropeancountries. Theorganisationofthe8thconferencewasprovidedbytheToulousebranchof Onera, the French aerospace laboratory, and the ENSEEIHT, situated in the heart of Toulouse, was kind enough to make one of its lecture halls available. This 8th editionoftheSCEEconferencewasfurthersponsoredby ABB, Switzerland http://www.abb.com AWR, Finland http://web.awr.com MunEDA, Germany http://www.muneda.com CST, Germany http://www.cst.com Theirfinancialandmaterialsupportisgratefullyacknowledged. The scientific programme of the conference was organised by the programme committee, whichconsistedof: Dr.AndreasBlaszczyk(ABBCorporateResearch,Switzerland) Prof.GabrielaCiuprina(PolytehnicaUniversityofBucharest,Romania) Dr.GeorgDenk(Infineon,Germany) Prof.MichaelGünther(UniversityofWuppertal,Germany) Dr.JanterMaten(NXPSemiconductors,TheNetherlands) Ir.BastiaanMichielsen(Onera,France) Prof.UrsulavanRienen(UniversityofRostock,Germany) Prof.VittorioRomano(UniversityofCatania,Italy) Dr.JanneRoos(HelsinkiUniversityofTechnology,Finland) Prof.WilSchilders(TU/e&NXPSemiconductors,TheNetherlands) Prof.ThomasWeiland(TUDarmstadt&CST,Germany) v vi Preface Theprogrammecommitteeattendedtothereviewingofthe proposedcontribu- tions.Thisresultedin41plenarytalksand34posterpresentations.Theprogramme committee was also responsible for inviting specialist speakers to introduce the sessions. We were happy to have the following invited talks (in order of their appearanceattheconference): – GuillaumeSylvand(EADSIW,France), “Fromquasi-statictohighfrequencies:Anoverviewofnumericalsimulationat EADS” – TimDavis(UniversityofFlorida,USA), “Sparsematrixmethodsforcircuitsimulationproblems” – HeidiThornquist(SandiaNationalLaboratories,USA), “AdvancesinParallelTransistor-LevelCircuitSimulation” – MaurizioRepetto(PolitecnicoTorino,Italy), “Tontidiagramsandalgebraicmethodsforthesolutionofcoupledproblems” – PatrickDular(UniversitédeLiège,Belgium), “Magneticmodelrefinementviacouplingoffiniteelementsubproblems” – NaoufelBen Abdallah(Université PaulSabatier), who was ourinvited speaker forthe devicemodellingsession, passedaway in thesummerof 2010,justtwo months before the conference. His time slot in the conferenceprogrammewas leftunfilled – JörgOstrowski(ABB,Switzerland), “TransientFullMaxwellComputationofSlowProcesses” – HelmutGräb(TUMünchen,Germany), “FromSizingoverDesignCenteringandParetoOptimizationtoTolerancePareto OptimizationofElectronicCircuits” – JoostRommes(NXP,TheNetherlands), “Challengesinmodelorderreductionforindustrialproblems” Allauthorsofpapersacceptedforpresentationattheconferencewerealsoinvited, inasecondround,toproposeacontributionforpublicationinthispost-conference book.Theprogrammecommitteeorganisedthefinalreviewingandyouwillfindthe 47selectedpapersinthemainpartofthisbook. Aseditorsofthisbookandmembersofthelocalorganisingcommittee, wewould liketothankalltheauthorswhocontributedtotheconferenceand, later, tothisbook fortheirgoodwork.Wethankthereviewersforhavinggonetwicethroughallthe proposedcontributionsandforalltheirconstructiveremarks.WealsothankOnera and the ENSEEIHT for having made this work possible and the staff of Springer Verlagfortheirpatienceingettingthisbooktothepress.
