ThefirstSUMconferencewasheldinWashingtonDCin2007.Sincethen,theSUM conferenceshavesuccessivelytakenplaceinNaplesin2008,WashingtonDCin2009, Toulousein2010,Daytonin2011,Marburgin2012,WashingtonDCin2013,Oxfordin 2014,Québecin2015,Nicein2016,Granadain2017,Milanoin2018,andCompiègne in2019.SUM2020wasinitiallyplannedtobeheldinBolzano,Italy,duringSeptember 2020.Unfortunately,theCOVID-19pandemicforcedittobefullyvirtual.Forthesame reasons,therewasnoSUMconferencein2021. SUM2022solicitedthreetypesofpapersubmissions.Longpapersreportonorig- inalresearch,orprovideasurveythatsynthesizessomecurrentresearchtrends.Short papersdescribepromisingworkinprogress,systems,orpositionsoncontroversialissues. Finally,extendedabstracts,whichdidnotgointotheproceedings,allowedparticipants to present their recently published work or preliminary ideas at SUM to discuss them withthecommunity. Wereceivedasmallnumberofsubmissions(21longandfourshortpapers),mostly by reputed research groups. We assigned three to four reviewers from the Program Committeeperpaper,andonlyacceptedpaperswithanoverallpositiveevaluation.This resultedin19longandfourshortpapersthatwentintotheproceedings. The conference also included three invited talks by Gabriele Kern-Isberner (TechnischeUniversitätDortmund),SiljaRenooij(UniversiteitUtrecht),andFrancesca Toni(ImperialCollegeLondon)andeighttutorialsbyDenisBouyssou(CNRS,Univer- sitéParisDauphine-PSL),TanyaBraun(UniversityofMünster),AnneLaurent(Uni- versitédeMontpellier),Jean-GuyMailly(UniversitéParisCité),MichaelPoss(CNRS, UniversitédeMontpellier),JeremyRohmer(BRGM,Paris),DiedrichWolter(University of Bamberg) and Christophe Gonzales (Aix Marseille Université). Two tutorials were accompaniedbyatutorialarticlethatcanbefoundintheproceedings.
