SAMARTHA BHARATA IS ..... Samartha Bharata is a campaign and a volunteer platform created by Rashtreeya Swayamsevak Sangh aimed at addressing social, economic, civic, environmental and other challenges facing our country. A significant amount of work, undertaken by various organizations, is in progress in the fields of quality education, health, vocational training, civic issues, environment, rural development, cow protection, cultural & literary development and upliftment of marginalized sections like street children, HIV+ people, transgenders and devadasis. Volunteers in these organizations come from varied professions and socio-economic and regional backgrounds and they dedicate their time, skills and energy towards these causes. Thanks to their efforts, a huge difference has been made to the lives of lakhs of people across the country. But there is a long way to go for our nation to reach its full potential and be free of the above mentioned challenges. Samartha Bharata offers a single platform for new volunteers and organizations to come together. In future, it will also serve as an incubator for new initiatives proposed to solve challenges and problems faced by society. Health Programs in Seva Basti (Slums) About the activity The Health Program in Seva Basti (Slums) are aimed at •Providing affordable & quality healthcare for the economically deprived •Providing the essential platform for doctors & hospitals to volunteer their services •Address the shortage of doctors in areas of need such as rural areas and slums. This project aims to draw upon existing Government Program, including those for the prevention of specific diseases. More significantly, the project's aim is to create a network of like- minded doctors, dedicated to the cause of the health and wellbeing of the rural and urban poor. •832 free cataract surgeries, 2016 spectacles distributed Community involvement being essential in achieving its objectives, Seva •24,100 people provided with free preventive medication for Basti ensures that a team of non-medical volunteers help each of the Chikungunya& Dengue doctors. Balagokula About the activity Balagokula is an activity for children aged between 5 to 13 years. Its objective is to bring about all-round personality development in children. In the 75 minutes programme conducted every week, children are taught to appreciate their cultural roots and encouraged to live by those values. Vidya Nidhi About the activity Vidya Nidhi is a scholarship program to help economically constrained students in their primary education. Students are chosen based on a set of criteria and are supported by this project. Many Programs are being run under this project throughout the state. Vidya Chetana is one such program run by Hindu Seva Pratishtana. This program aspires to help families from underprivileged background to provide education to their children by supplying school kits , school fees and uniforms once a year. Vidya Chetana also offers access to regular evening tuition, training in life skills, civic awareness and yoga, career counseling, Pragatipura, Bayyappanahalli, Kaval Bhairasandra, Beguru, Bapuji Nagara, educational trips, participation in sports and art competitions.
