Goals ofAchieving the Dream Achieving the Dream is a multiyear national initiative to help more community college students succeed.Theinitiativeisparticularlyconcernedaboutstudentgroupsthathavetraditionallyfaced the mostsignificantbarrierstosuccess, including lowincomestudentsand studentsofcolor. Participating institutions maintain high enrollment levels for these students while working to increase the percentage who complete coursework, advance through programs, and earn certificates and degrees. Each institution identifies student populations that currently experience low rates ofsuccess, developsinterventionstoimprovestudentoutcomes,andmeasureschangesinstudentsuccess. Togaugetheimpactoftheinitiativeasawhole,allinstitutionsdocumentovertimethepercentage oflowincomestudentsand studentsofcolorwhoaccomplish thefollowing: • successfullycompletedevelopmental coursesand progresstocreditbearingcourses; • enroll in and successfullycompletegatekeepercourses; • completethecoursestheytakewith agradeofCorhigher; • re-enroll from one semestertothe next; and • earn certificatesand degrees.
