Erica Preface Sinusitis and rhinitis are ubiquitous medical problems, comprising a set of conditionsmostcommonlytodaydescribedtogetherunderthetermrhinosinusitis, thatoccupyasignificantportionoftimeinmanyoutpatientcareproviders’offices, beitpediatrician,familypractitioner,internist,primarycareprovider,orotolaryn- gologist.Indeed,rhinosinusitisisoneofthemostcommonofallhealthcarecom- plaints,reportedtobepresentchronicallyinfully14%oftheAmericanpopulation. Chronicrhinosinusitishasalsobeenshowntohaveamuchgreaterimpactonoverall quality of life than previously recognized and is indeed a potentially debilitating disorder.Becauserhinosinusitisismanagedbysuchawidevarietyofpractitioners, thereisalackofcohesivenessinpatientcareandmuchcontradictoryliteratureabout thebestapproachtopatientmanagement.Additionally,thechronicformofrhinosi- nusitiscanbeanenormouslydifficultproblemtomanage,withunder-treatmentand over-treatmentofpatientsbothequallypossibletoleadtopooroutcomes.
