Abstract AnewspeciesoftheanthribidgenusRhaphltropisisdescribedfrom
NortheastJapanunder thename of R. sato1. It ismainlycharacterizedbylong
antennaeandstronglybisinuatedorsaltransversecarinaofpronotum.
The 9enusRhctphitropisbelonging to the tribeZygaenodini of thesubfamily
Anthribinaeisadistinctgenushavingadorsaltransversecarinaapartfrombasalmargin
ofP「onOtum. ThemembersofthegenusaredistributedintheOrientalandPalaearctic
Regions. Eightspeciesof thegenushavehithertobeenknownfromJapan.
ThroughthecourtesyofMr.ShujiSAIToofFukushimaPrefecture, Ihaverecently
hadanopportunitytoexamineastrangeanthribidofRhaphitropiscollectedbyhimself
f「omhishomeground. After acareful examination, it hasbecomeclear that this
anthribid isanewspecies.

Length:3.1mm(fromheadtoapicesofelytra).
M ale・ Colourpredominantlyblack,max加aryandlabialpalpibrown,antennae,
tibiae,tarsiandclawsyellowish.Pubescencedense,grayandblack;grayhairspresent
onheadtorostrum,bothsidesofpronota1baseandmiddleofbase,scutellum,basesand

apicesofelytra,andalongbasalthirdofelytralsuture. Pygidium,undersideandlegs
coveredwithgrayhairs.
Head finelyshagreened;eyesmoderatelylarge,expandedlatero-posteriorly,rela-
tivelyseparatedfromeachother;rostrumtransverse,about167timesaswideaston9,
graduallynarrowedtowardsthebasesofmandibles,stronglydepressedandsparsely
hairedinapicalhalf;maximumwidthofrostrumabout2.36timesaswideastheshortest

Pronotumhemispherical,about145timesaswideaslong,widestatthebase;basal
margintrisinuate;lateralsidesslightlyexpandedat theendofdorsaltransversecarina;
discconvexabove;dorsal transversecarinastronglybisinuate,angulateposteriorlyin
middle,andangularlyconnectedwitheachlateralcarina,thelatterveryshort;carinula
distinct,longerthanlateralcarina.Scutellumround. Elytraoblong,about13timesas
longaswide,nearlyparallel-sidedinbasal three-fourths, thennarrowedposteriorly,
basalmarginalmoststraight;stria1puncturessmall,deep, intervalssomewhatelevated,
distinctlywider thandiameterofstria1punctures,subbasalswellingweak. pygidjum
Subtriangular, about 1.1 times as long as wide, inclined forwards, lateral margins
graduallyconvergenttowardsroundedapex;discrugged.
Prosternumfinelyshagreend;metasternumcloselycoveredwithgrayhairs. viewed

5thslantin9; 1st to3rdsterniteswithaweakdepressionatmiddle. Legsrelatively
Slender;anteriortibianearlyaslongastheposteriorwhichisalittlelongerthanthe
median;posteriortarsuslongerthantheanteriorwhichislongerthanthemedian.

Holotype ,MoniwaForestryRoad(about300malt ),Iizaka-machi,Fukushjma
City,FukushimaPrefecture,11-VI-1997,ShujiSAIToleg. Theholotypeispreserved
inthecollectionof theNationalScienceMuseum(Nat.Hist),Tokyo.
Distribution. Japan(FukushimaPref).
Notes. Ingeneralappearance,thisspeciesresemblesRhctphitropistamilisJORDAN
(l925,p 250)describedfromCeylon,butcanbedistinguishedfromthelatterbythe
followingcharactersitics:dorsaltransversecarinastronglybsiinuate,angulateposter_i
orlyinmiddle;differentconformationofantennae.

味尾俊男: 福島市から発見されたヒメヒケナガソウムシ属の1新種. - 1997年の夏に福島
2a,, 市飯坂町茂庭林道で, 斎藤修司氏により,角角oは長く 前 1 11背1板横隆線は強く 湾 曲する と い
う特徴をもったヒメヒゲナガソウムシ属の1種が採集された. 精査の結果, この種はスリランカ
に生息するRhaphitropistamilisJORDANに近縁の新種であることが判明したので, Rhapltjtropjs
sato1と命名し,記載した.極小名は,日本の甲虫学発展のために大きく貢献され, 昨年8月に亡
くなられた佐藤正孝博士にちなむ. 博士には個人的にも標本や文献, タイ国に関することなどで
いろいろとお世話になった. 改めてお礼を申し上げ, 心から佐藤正率博士のご冥福をお祈り致し
ます.
