Meridians,acupoints,andChineseherbsareimportantcomponentsoftraditionalChinesemedicine(TCM).Theyhavebeenused fordiseasetreatmentandpreventionandasalternativeandcomplementarytherapies.Systemsbiologyintegratesomicsdata,such astranscriptional,proteomic,andmetabolomicsdata,inordertoobtainamoreglobalandcompletepictureofbiologicalactivity. Tofurtherunderstandtheexistenceandfunctionsofthethreecomponentsabove,wereviewedrelevantresearchinthesystems biologyliteratureandfoundmanyrecentstudiesthatindicatethevalueofacupunctureandChineseherbs.Acupunctureisuseful inpainmoderationandrelievesvarioussymptomsarisingfromacutespinalcordinjuryandacuteischemicstroke.Moreover, Chineseherbalextractshavebeenlinkedtowoundrepair,thealleviationofpostmenopausalosteoporosisseverity,andanti-tumor effects,amongothers.Differentacupoints,variationsintreatmentduration,andherbalextractscanbeusedtoalleviatevarious symptomsandconditionsandtoregulatebiologicalpathwaysbyalteringgeneandproteinexpression.Ourpaperdemonstrates howsystemsbiologyhashelpedtoestablishaplatformforinvestigatingtheefficacyofTCMintreatingdifferentdiseasesand improvingtreatmentstrategies. 1.Introduction visceraandmeridiansinfusesandeffuses.Thisphenomenon is thought to be similar to how signals are passed through According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), acu- neural networks.
