Resurgam Angus “The natural choice for grass-fed beef” 10thAnnual Private Treaty Sale Resurgam Ngahere U407 About Us We are very pleased to have for sale by Private Treaty an even selection of bulls with fantastic temperament. Over the past 19 years we have re-built a base of Pure New Zealand Aberdeen Angus maternal Genetics. These maternal genetics are renowned for their superior meat quality and easy doing ability. The cattle are great converters of lower quality grass to high quality beef; they maintain during feed shortages, they will bounce back from lost weight quickly. Sean became interested in the Angus breed through his livestock role with AFFCO. In 1996 he introduced Aberdeen Angus cattle to Resurgam, the family farm. While establishing the Resurgam Aberdeen Angus herd we discovered the unique quality of Pure New Zealand Angus cattle. These cattle have the attributes we believe are needed for New Zealand’s grass based farming systems. 3 | Resurgam Angus • www.resurgamangus.com Background The first six heifers were purchased at a bull sale from the Maunu and Taurikura herds in 1996. We identified a number of bloodlines to incorporate into our herd. These included Matai 546, York of Kenhardt, Ramble of Kauere 175-5, Hingaia 469, Wharkowka Mate 544, Baxter of Matauri, and Puketutu bloodlines. These carried the “Pure New Zealand” genetics that are traced to the original Scottish cattle which came to New Zealand from 1863 onwards. In 1998 we started adding Pure NZ genetics to our program with the purchase of Waiwera Zeus I474. From 2000 we started adding females from Waimata Angus, Kenhardt, Waiwera Angus, Waitawheta Angus and the last Pure NZ cows out of the Waiterenui herd. Foundation Sires used in our Herd: Waiwera Zeus I474 Waimata Blu-print G436 Waimata Lad E230 Mainstream Mate 301 ET Pinebank Waigroup 41/97 It is very satisfying to be using sons through to great grandsons from these key foundation sires within our herd. In summary, our herd has grown over the past 19 years with our breeding programme aimed to preserve the unique qualities of the Pure New Zealand Aberdeen Angus cattle. It is our vision to produce moderate birth-weight calves, with strong maternal & paternal qualities, feed-efficient cattle with high meat quality. We seek longevity in our cows with easy fleshing in our herd and require minimum maintenance while working in a 100% grass based environment. 4 | Resurgam Angus • www.resurgamangus.com Waitangihia Station On the 1st July 2009 we expanded our farming operation, taking over Waitangihia Station in Waikura Valley, Hicks Bay. Waitangihia Station is 652 ha effective in area and is used for heifer development. The R2 Stud heifers are calved at the station where we evaluate their calves and select the best performing heifers to go into the stud herd. The R2 heifers receive their last drench as 2 year olds having calved. We also run a commercial herd of cows. In December 2011 we moved down to the Waikura Valley and took a hands on interest in Waitangihia Station. Over the past year we have included two neighbouring stations in our operations. 5 | Resurgam Angus • www.resurgamangus.com Bull Information The R2 bulls are reared on the family farm - a beautiful emerald valley overlooking the Ohiwa Harbour in the Bay of Plenty. They are fed a high roughage grass diet which enables them to grow at a more consistent rate. We believe bulls in their natural conditions are more athletic on hill country and have increased fertility from less fat cells in their scrotum. It is very important that they perform from birth right through to breeding. Our bulls have done well in a number of different farming environments throughout the North Island. The bulls available in this 10th Private Treaty Sale are bred on low fertility coastal country and receive minimal drenching. Our aim is to build a strong natural immune system in our animals that forage on lower quality pasture and perform well when they leave the property. The main cow herd has not been drenched for 12 years and only receive an annual copper and B12 with selenium. For sale this year we have 41 R2 Bulls. This line of bulls includes 36 that are suitable for heifer mating. Jodi and I are confident about the future of our maternal Pure New Zealand Aberdeen Angus. We would like to thank you for considering our Resurgam Angus 2 year old bulls for your next breeding season. We invite you to visit us at Resurgam and to see our sale bulls.
