During2005, inventorieswerecompletedforAustralia,theUSAandNamibiathroughtheuseofofficial governmentalsources.During2006.SouthAfricaandAngolawerenearlycompleted,aversion wasdevelopedforPacificIslandcountrieswiththeavailableinformation,andworkiswell advancedforsomeSoutheastAsiancountriessuchasThailand.Indonesia,thePhilippines,orwith CentralAmericancountriessuchasNicaraguaorHonduras.TheProjecthassupportedthe developmentofthefisheriesmcxlulebasedoncasestudiesprovidedbyFIRMSpartnersaswellas theFishcode-STFinventories.ThemodulewillbeusedbothbyFIRMSandFishcode-STF. • TheimplementationofFAOSTFstrategywasdiscussedatthethirdsessionoftheRegional ConomtmhiessFiAoOnfsotrraFtiesghyeriaensd(tRhEeCOFFisIh)CaonddeaStTaFmeperotjiencgtohfaCsPbPeSeninp2r0e0p6a.reAdnanadwardiesntersisbutberdo.chTuhree FishCode-STFWebsiteprovidingbackgroundinformationontheimportanceoftheStrategyand activitiesoftheFishCodc-STFprojectwaslaunchedinMay2005. • aItnhdasthbateeSnSrFeciongndiezveedlobpyinCgOFcoluntthraitessmaalrle-sncoatleweflilshemroineist(orSeSdF,)hFaAvOenhoatsbbeeegnugnivteonaddudereaststetnhteisoen concernsbydevelopingtechnicalguidelinesonsmall-scalefisheries,andbycollaboratingwith theWorldFishCenteronaninitiativetodevelopaprojectfortheinterdisciplinarya.ssessmentof small-scalefisheries.FishCode-STFembracedthisinitiativeandinSeptember2005organized,in associationwiththeWorldFishCenter,an"agencystakeholders”workshopontheroleofSSFin foodsecurity,povertyalleVialetionandsustainableresourceuse,andonthedevelopmentof simpleandappropriatemethodsforcollectingdatainsuchfisheries.TheWorkshopconstituteda firststepindevelopingacollaborativeprojecttowardscapacity-buildingforsmall-scalefisheries a.s,sessmentindevelopingcountries.Forty-fiveparticipantsrepresentedvariousinternationaland nationalagenciesandacademicinstitutionsaswellasprivatefirms.TheWorkshopaddressed threemaintasks:(i)preliminarydevelopmentofaframeworkforinterdisciplinaryassessmentof small-scalefisheries:(ii)identificationofappropriateapproaches,methodsandresearchneedsto hsterlaptefiglylsfmoarlla-sccaollleafbiosrhaetriiveesipnrfojoercmtatioonnsgmaaplsl;asncdal(eiiif)isphreerpiaers.atiTownoofsatneposuthlaivneeibmepelnemetnatkaentioans immediatefollowuptotheworkshop,(i)Thecreationofa“VirtualOfficeontheAssessmentof SmallScaleFisheries”.Thevirtualofficewillserveasacontactpointforperson.s/in.stitutions dedicatedto workon integratedassessment ofsmall scale fisheries www.OneFish.org. However,themeetingnotedthatmanyaspectsofdataneedsforfishandfisheryproductsare sharedbythecapturefisheryandaquaculturesub-sectorsandconsistencyofstandardsandconcepts stohoeusltdabbleishmaainCtWaiPn-eldi.kWehbioldeythfeormeaequtaicnuglteunrceo,utrhaegeCdWtPheraequcaocmumlteunrdeeedxptehrattsFtAoOconatnidnutehethSeeicrreetfafroiratts ensureclosecollaborationandmonitoringofthisdevelopmentandregularlyreporttotheCWP.The 3 Copyrightedmaterial appropriateformoftherelationshipbetweenthecurrentCWPandaCWP-likebodyforaquaculture shouldbediscussedatthelaterstage. 16. Eurostatpresentedthestatusoftheirrevisionoflegislationonaquaculturestatistics.The CommissionadoptedanewproposalofRegulationonAquacultureattheendoftheyear2(X)6.This proposalhasbeensubmittedtotheco-decisionprocedurewiththeEuropeanParliamentandthe EuropeanCouncil.ThefirstmeetingoftheadhocWorkingGroupoftheCouncilwilltakeplaceon 16April2007andthenewRegulationcouldenterintoforceduring2007.Themaindifferenceswith theformerregulationNo.788A>6include: • annualdatasubmissionontheproductionandthevalueoftheproductionofaquaculture withbreakdownbyspecies,environmentandtechnology; • annualdatasubmi.ssiononcapture-basedaquaculture(thevolumeandvalueoffishery productstakenfromthewildandplacedinaquacultureunitsforon-rearingtoamarketable state); • annualdatasubmissionontheproductionofhatcheriessupplyingmaterial(e.g.eggsor youngfish)forrelea.setoacontrolledenvironmentortothewild;and • triennialdatasubmissiononthestructureoftheaquacultureholdingsgivinginformationon thetechnologyusedandthesizeoftheholdings. FAOfishingareasareincludedasrequirementsinthereportingguidelines.Thefullproposalcanbe foundontheEurostatCIRCAsiteandEurostatwouldbeplea.sedtosupplyaccessinformationto interestedCWP-22participants.
