E-mail: [email protected] In 1947, Théry described a genus of buprestid beetle from Angola, naming it Maublancia Théry, 1947. He included two species in this genus; M. auberti Théry, 1947 and M. testui Théry, 1947. He did not, however, nominate a type species. Under Article 13.3 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (1999) this name is not available. In 1956, Lepesme & Breuning described a genus of cerambycid beetle from west Africa (Gabon, Cameroon, Ivory Coast & Belgian Congo, now the Democratic Republic of Congo, the type specimen of the type species being from Tchibanga, Gabon), giving it the name Maublancia Lepesme & Breuning, 1956. This genus originally contained three species and a type species (Maublancia maublanci Lepesme & Breuning, 1956) was nominated, by original designation. In 1988, Bellamy corrected Théry’s omission, creating Maublancia Bellamy, 1988, with the type species Maublancia testui Théry, 1947. Although available, this genus is invalid, being a junior homonym of Maublancia Lepesme & Breuning, 1956. Therefore Maublancius nomen novum is proposed here as a replacement name for Maublancia Bellamy, 1988, preoccupied by Maublancia Lepesme & Breuning, 1956 (Coleoptera). The name is chosen as the masculine form of the name originally proposed by Théry for this genus. This genus contains two species: Maublancius auberti (Théry, 1947) comb. nov. and Maublancius testui (Théry, 1947) comb. nov.. The type species, in accordance with Art. 67.8 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, is Maublancia testui Théry, 1947. I would like to thank Richard Westcott of the Coleopterist's Society and Adriano Kury Museu Nacional do Rio de Janeiro for their advice in the preparation of this manuscript. References Bellamy, C.L.
