Ceruchusrumor wasoriginallydescribedbyTANIKADoandOKUDA (l994,p 7) from the
QinlingMountainsinsouthernShaanxi. ItwasadditionallyrecordedlaterfromtheMicangShan
MountainsofnortheasternSichuanandtheDabaShanMountainsof northernChongqingShi
(IMURA&ARAYA,2006,p82). Veryrecently,Iwasabletoexaminetwomalespecimensofthe
samespeciescollectedfromHenanandHubeiProvincesasrecordedinthefollowinglines.
Specimensexamined. 1 (16.7mminlengthincludingmandibles),Baotianman [宝天曼]
NatureReserve,33°31'N/111°56'E,1,500-1,750minaltitude,ontheFu'niuShanMountains,
inNeixiangXian,ofwesternHenan,CentralChina,10-V~6-VII-2006; l (16.1mminlength
includingmandibles),belowpassbetweenMuyu[木色]andYazikou[鵬l 子口], 1,800-1,850min
altitude,inShennongjiaLinqu,ofwesternHubei,CentralChina,6-IV-2007,Y.NAGAHATAleg;
boththespecimensarepreservedinthecollectionofY. IMURA.
Remarks. TheBaotianmanspecimenisthelargestofall theknownmaterialsofCminor,
with thehead remarkably hypertrophic, front anglesof the pronotumnotstronglyprotruded
anteriorly,posteriorpartof thepronota11atera1sidesapparentlyconvergent towardsthehind
angles,andtheelytra1surfacealittlemorecoarselypunctured. TheShennongjiaoneisalsovery
largeinthesizethoughtheheadisnotsoremarkablyhypertrophic,withthefrontanglesofthe
pronotum lessstrongly protruded anteriorly, central part of thepronota1lateral sideshardly
sinuate, and theelytralsuturealittlemoreshallowlyimpressed. Malegenitalicfeaturesare
almost identical withthoseof thenominotypicalsubspeciesinboththespecimens. Anyway, it
wouldbe better tosuspendjudgment on their taxonomicaccount until wecanexaminemore
specimens.
