These books have been selected because of their quality of art and writing, presentation of material and appeal to the intended audi- ence, and support the informational, educational, recreational, and personal needs of Spanish speakers from preschool through the twelfth grade. This book is arranged in the following sections: Reference Books; Nonfiction Books, which includes Philosophy, Psychology, Religion, So- cial Science, Folklore, Language, Science, Technology, Health and Medi- cine, The Arts, Recreation and Sports, Literature, Poetry, Geography, His- tory and Biography; Publishers’Series; and Fiction Books, which includes Easy Books, General Fiction and Graphic Novels. Completing the volume is an appendix of dealers of books in Spanish, followed by author, title, and subject indexes. Each book is listed under its main entry, which is usu- ally the author. For some books, however, the main entry is under the title or series title. To assist the non-Spanish-speaking selector, I have translated each title into English and provided an extensive annotation. Also, I have indicated a tentative grade level for each book, but the individual student’s Spanish reading ability, interest, taste and purpose should be the main criteria for determining the true level of each book. In addition, I have provided a price for each book. It is important to note, however, that prices of books in Spanish definitely will vary with dealer and time of purchase. ix
