It pertains to the soul which should be the first and last priority and point of concern for the wise Believer. 2. It is from rudimentary concepts of Prophet’s message and da’wah. ﷺ 3. The over abundant ways of defiling the self in our modern times. 4. The scholars of the past gave it a great deal of importance and care. 5. It is one of the major practical lessons to be taken from the 5 Pillars of Islam. 6. It is of utmost importance for the slave to realize that it is one of the greatest blessings of Allah upon him/her. there's no place NECESSITY 1. The life of this world touches each and every single one of us in one way or another, some of us like a more than others. 2. The great number of callers to the defilement of the soul. (new) home. 3. There isn’t anyone of us except that he/she sins, forgets and becomes heedless at one point or another. 4. It’s necessary in understanding much of the Qur’an. 5. Reading the specific prophetic supplications regarding purifying the soul. 3. Abstaining from eating the haram. 4. Abstaining from eating the halal but through haram means. 5. Not submitting to the will of the nafs. 6. Seeking and learning beneficial knowledge from the Book and the Sunnah. 7. Constantly looking into the life stories of the scholars of Hadith. 8. Abstaining from unnecessary pleasures and luxuries of  the Dunya. 9. Accompanying the righteous. 10. Properly paying alms tax (Zakat). 11. Voluntary fasting. 12. Voluntary charity (Sadaqah). WHO IS THE ONE WHO ACTUALLY PURIFIES YOUR SOUL/GIVES YOU SPIRITUAL HYGIENE? 1. From one aspect the only one who can purify the soul is Allah, the Most High, He in Whose hand is all good, He who created Adam and his offspring, He who possesses their hearts in His hand between His fingers, the Exalted. 2. From another aspect the one who purifies the soul is the slave himself, he who has the will and power to perform good and bad, all of course after the will power of Allah, the Sublime. The slave is the one who must exert the necessary efforts in purifying the soul. 3 S P I R I T U A L H Y G I E N E MISUNDERSTANDINGS AND MISCONCEPTIONS 1. This topic is only for the Sufis. 2. This topic is foreign to the Salaf as-Salih, Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah, the People of Hadith. 3. There is the only or most important part of the religion of Islam.   4. There are an entirely different set of principles and rules for purifying the the soul other than those extracted from the Book and the Sunnah. 5. A scholar can purify your soul for you. 6. False and bogus hadiths, rather total blatant lies can be used in the purification of the soul. 7. This topic is obsolete in 2017. 8. Purification of the soul can be reached through disparaging other Muslims. 9. There aren’t any practical and tangible means of purifying the soul, rather it will suddenly descend from heaven upon the slave. 10. Purification of the soul can be reached through making the halal haram. RULING OF TAZKIYYATUN-NAFS 1. Tazkiyyatun-Nafs is Fard upon each and every servant of Allah. 4 V I R T U E VIRTUES VIRTUES OF THE MONTH OF RAMADAN 1. It is the only month mentioned in the Quran al-Kareem by name. 2. It is the month in which the Quran was revealed. 3. It is the month of the Quran. 4. It is one of the months which houses one of the five pillars of Islam. 5. It contains the “Night of Qadr.” 6. The gates of heaven are opened and the doors of hell are shut therein. 7. Shaytan is chained and the malicious demons are fettered therein. 8. Its days are sacred and inviolable. 9. It is ended by one of the two major celebrations of the Muslims. 10. It is gilded by an entire special set of prayers at night. 11. It is a major opportunity for one’s sins to be forgiven. 12. It is a month in which most Muslims choose to pay their annual zakat. 13. It is a month of charity. 14. It is a month in which the Muslims outdo their already unbelievable standard of hospitality. 15. It is a month in which the Muslims fight to win the race of good deeds and kind acts. 16. It is a month which the Muslims suffer bitter sadness when it leaves. 5 V I R T U E VIRTUES OF FASTING IN AND OUTSIDE OF RAMADAN – 1. Fasting is a shield from sin. 2. Fasting is a shield from Hell. 3. Fasting is the only human act of worship that Allah, the Most High, has attributed to Holy Self. 4. The reward for fasting is multiplied infinite times. 5. Fasting is reason behind entered Paradise. 6. Abundant fasting is from the Sunnah of the Muhammad . ﷺ 7. Fasting is from Sunnah of the previous Prophets and Messengers. 8. Fasting is a major deterrent against the devil. 9. Fasting is major means of appreciating Allah and His countless bounties. 10. Fasting is a key ingredient in creating and fortifying Islamic brotherhood/sisterhood. 11. Fasting is reason behind obtaining self-control. 12. Fasting is means of obtaining mental sharpness, focus and concentration. 6 F A S T I N G F R O M A - Z FASTING FROM A-Z MAIN RULINGS OF FASTING THE MONTH OF RAMADAN The Muslims must fast the Month of Ramadan when one of the following things happen: 1. When the new moon (phase) is sighted by at least one trustworthy and reliable Muslim. 2. And if not when the previous lunar month, Sha’ban, is completed 30 full days. They are to fast for 30 days – unless the new moon (phase) for the lunar month of Shawwal is sighted before the completion of 30 (i.e. they will only fast for 29 days). The moon sighting is for each individual “zone.” The one who wishes to fast makes their intention to fast at night on the eve of Ramadan, and many scholars say each night before Fajr time. THINGS WHICH NULLIFY FASTING Intentional eating and drinking. Whatever takes the place of eating and drinking. Sexual intercourse. Intentional vomiting. Anyone who intentionally breaks his/her fast must make an atonement (Kaffarah) equal to that of a Dhihar divorce. 7 V I R T U E MAKING UP MISSED DAYS Those who break their fasts based on legitimate reasons must make up those missed days. It is lawful those traveling and others similar to them to break their fasts. Unless they become afraid of serious harm and injury and or death, and or weakness in battle, at that time it becomes mandatory. Those who die with missed days of fasting their relatives should make those days up for them. Elderly and terminally ill will make up the missed days by feeding a poor person each day. RECOMMENDED FASTS Fasting 6 days of Shawwal The month of Muharram The month of Sha’ban Monday and Thursday The first 9 days of Dhul-HIjjah The Day of ‘Arafah The 3 “white nights” The fast of Dawud 8
