Jets at TOP GUN 2022

For 5 days each April the skies over
Lakeland, Florida, open up to some of
the highest quality scale aircraft, flown
by the best pilots around, during the
world-famous event known as Top Gun,
April 27th through May 1st 2022 being
no exception. Many wondered this year
if Top Gun would even be able to take
place as it has for the last 34 years, as
the remnants of the Covid pandemic

along with escalating fuel prices were
just two of the concerns that the event
management team had regarding this
amazing and fun event.
First established all those years ago by
the late Frank Tiano, Top Gun has
grown from a small regional event in
Arizona to become one of the largest
and most prestigious events in the
world. I have been lucky enough to com-
pete at Top Gun for over 20 of those

years and it has played a huge role in
my model aviation career. Not only has
it been a great place to learn from
others, but it is also a fantastic way to
meet people. In fact, most of the mode-
lers I keep in touch with from all over the
world, I met for the first time at Top Gun!
To say that Top Gun is very special to
me is an understatement.
As mentioned, this year had its challen-
ges, but we came together as a “Top
Gun” family and pulled through,

Gabriel Pellegrini (in the picture above) once again came all the way from
Brazil to compete at Top Gun 2022 with his Fei-Bao T-33 Shooting Star
