Our annual Stallion Presentation is scheduled for January 15, 2022. This is a bit later than usual for the simple reason that we have been somewhat apprehen- sive due to Covid. However, it is the general consensus of those who advise me that we should “break out”, so to speak. The event will be held outside and those who attend can exercise their own safety precautions. We will provide masks for those who wish to wear them. Aside from the obvious, the purpose for the Stallion Presentation is to have our friends, clients and breeders in Louisiana and beyond gather for lunch and to give everyone a chance to visit and share ideas with peers and political leaders from across the state. With this visit, you will gain a better idea of what we have to offer in terms of the farm, facilities and staff. Clear Creek Stud is a full service facility offering breeding, foaling, sales prep, breaking and training in addition to vanning throughout the state and to Kentucky. We are dedicated to the well being and productivity of the many horses for which we care. We do our best to accom- modate owners and trainers by attending to the needs and requirements of each individual animal. The pandemic has continued to cause problems throughout the nation and world. Last year’s storms Laura and Zeta devastated Delta Downs and the south- west Louisiana region. This year, Hurricane Ida was very destructive to southeast- ern Louisiana including Clear Creek. With 100 to 130 mph winds accompanied by tornadoes, much damage was sustained by our trees, fences and barns. Thankfully no people or horses were injured here on the farm. We are in the process of repairing the damage, albeit somewhat slowly with contractors and help in general difficult to find—another matter that seems to be common every- where. A new breeding and foaling season comes with much planning and hard work and is welcomed with keen anticipation and excitement. As always, Clear Creek Stud offers nicking systems to our stallions that have garnered worldwide recognition and support: Enicks, True Nicks and G1 Goldmine Stallion Watch. These are available on our website at no charge. These tools are often greatly ben- eficial in helping prospective breeders choose their ideal stallion match. We are proud of our strong Stallion Roster for 2022 and confident that you can find a match to suit your purpose. We go to great lengths to offer stallions that will be suitable to your particular needs as a breeder, whether your program is direct- ed toward the commercial market or producing runners capable of competing on a national level. We are fortunate to stand an elite group of stallions with perform- ance, pedigrees and conformation that make them desirable not only in this region, but nationally as well. The national Thoroughbred foal crop, as well as the Louisiana foal crop, has been on the decline in recent years. In response to this trend, the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association has now adopted the new Non-Resident Mare Program in hopes to help increase the foal crop here in Louisiana while also promoting Louisiana based stallions. This allows mares to come into the state of Louisiana to foal and then requires that they MUST breed back to a resident Louisiana stallion. These mares must remain in Louisiana for a minimum of nine- ty days after foaling or until August 1st, whichever is earliest. Foals out of these mares can be registered as Accredited Louisiana Breds and participate in every aspect of our program. These foals will be entitled to receive fifty percent of the current rate of breeder’s awards being paid for running first, second or third in any race. The mares can then repeat the process in following years to continue to have Accredited Louisiana bred foals. The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Program offers considerable opportunity to its members through its 4 Racetracks, 332 Race Days per year, and a minimum of 996 State Bred Races written per year. Not to mention, each of Louisiana’s 4 Racetracks offers a full card of stakes races strictly for Accredited Louisiana Bred Foals to highlight the best in the state for each category. This year and every year, the horse industry continues to be incredibly impor- tant to the Louisiana economy. I would encourage you to make an effort to com- municate to our state legislators, especially the newly elected ones, how much our industry contributes to the economic well being of our state, particularly through the creation of numerous jobs. We are thankful to the Governor and Legislators for dedicating funds from Sports Gaming to Louisiana Bred purses and for enabling Pari-Mutuel historic horse racing at our industry facilities. The impact of this leg- islation will significantly increase the level of participation in Louisiana to the benefit of the entire horse industry. We appreciate their past efforts and support and look forward to working with them in the coming year to keep the horse industry healthy throughout Louisiana. Clear Creek is a family owned and operated business. Farm manager Michelle Murrell LaVoice and assistant manager April Savoy are seasoned professionals and their dedicated and skilled support staff continue to provide attention to detail in every aspect of the daily routine, ensuring that the usual is accomplished unusually well. Maintenance manager Trey LaVoice does an outstanding job with day to day operations and keeps our facilities, fences and equipment in working order. Office manager Lisa Hobbs, with the help of Sally Blackwell, Laura Kenny and Brandy Schillesci remain at your service to ensure that all the paperwork that the farm generates is processed in a timely and organized manner. Finally, thank you for considering Clear Creek stallions in your breeding plans. We hope you enjoy the day and if you have any questions, please call or better yet, stop in for a visit. Inviting our peers with farms from surrounding states to embrace the new Louisiana by-laws and raise their own Louisiana Breds! Louisiana’s New Non-Resident Mare Rule Offers More Opportunities The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association now allows for a “Non- Resident Mare” to be eligible to have accredited Louisiana bred foals. The Non-Resident section of the by-law reads: (b) Non-Resident Mare is a broodmare that arrives in Louisiana in foal and after foaling must be covered by a Louisiana domiciled stallion in that foaling year, and pregnant or not, must remain in Louisiana for a period of ninety (90) days after foaling or until August 1 of the foaling year, whichever is earlier. With this by-law change, breeders may be able to be a significant part of the Louisiana Breeders program and be rewarded accordingly.
