Birkbeck, University of London, supported Matt’s research trip to Berlin where Jen was conducting research of her own. Over the years that followed, Carleton University has funded numerous follow-up trips to London and Brighton, which allowed the conversation to deepen and continue. We have had the great good fortune of working with a wonderful group of contributors, who responded swiftly and with good humour at each request for information or revision. We owe them huge thanks for their patience, and for their fascinating insights into the queer worlds they bring to life in their chapters. Our editors at Continuum, Emma Goode and before her Rhodri Mogford and Michael Greenwood, have been a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process. Jane Freeland and Emmanuel Hogg at Carleton helped us in innumerable ways as we drew the final manuscript together. Thanks too to Grishma Fredric for shepherding it through the final process. Our partners and children Jason, Gwen, Gillian, Ben, Jaya and Chetan have, as ever, provided welcome diversion along the way. Writing is as much a personal as a communal affair. We have learnt so much from each other these last few years about collaboration, friendship and commitment to a common cause. It has been a rewarding experience on all levels.
