1.0 INTRODUCTION
BurlingtonNorthernRailroadCo.(BNRR),representedbyitscontractor
Envirocon, Inc., continued field and support activities during August,
September,andOctober1991attheLivingstonrailyard(LRY),inLivingston,
Montana. Envirocon conducted ongoing monitoring operations, site
maintenance,constructionactivities,treatabilitystudies,andinvestigations.
All activities arebeingconductedinaccordance withthe InterimRemedial
MeasuresWorkPlan(IRMWP),asamended.
This status report is a summary of project activities conducted
duringAugust,September,andOctober1991.
2.0 CORRESPONDENCE
AllAugust,September,andOctobercorrespondencebetweenEnvirocon
andtheMontanaDepartmentofHealthandEnvironmentalSciences(MDHES)
issiimmarizedonTables1.0and2.0. CorrespondencefromEnvirocontothe
MDHESincludedsubmittalsoftheDraftRemedialInvestigation(RI)Report,
thedraftIndoorAirQualityInvestigationWorkPlan,thedraftSurficialSoil
SamplingWorkPlan,theThirdQuarterlyAmbientAirMonitoringReport,bi-
weeklyprogressreportsforthepilot-scalehydrocarbonrecoverysystem,and
arequesttocontinueoperatingtheWasteWaterTreatmentPlant(WWTP)soil
vapor extraction (SVE) test. Correspondence from the MDHES included
approvaltocontinueoperatingtheWWTPSVEtest,approvaltodisposeofdrill
cuttingscollectedfrombelowthezoneofhydrocarboncontaminationduring
constructionofthehydrocarbonrecoveryobservationwells,approvaltoremove
sludgeandliquidsfromtheWWTPheadworks,andissuanceofaTentative
MontanaPollutantDischargeEliminationSystem(MPDES)Permit.
