It was established in April 2005 and is located in (Abu Hamour). Today, it is one of the three schools under the Taleb banner that is striding ahead and its endeavor to create global citizens. The school serves students from kindergarten to grade 12. It started with the vision of preparing students to face challenges of the 21st century. With an emphasis on adherence to excellence, ethics and values, the school has, at the very outset instilled the need for forward thinking. The school prepares students for the All India Senior School Certificate Examinations (Grade 12). The curriculum is designed to keep pace with the latest educational trends and techniques and offers a wide variety of practical application avenues that makes it both challenging and rewarding. DMIS aims to provide a balanced, varied school curriculum designed to meet the academic, cultural, and social needs of individuals from diverse backgrounds. It is committed to create learners who will develop their individual talents, critical thinking, and technology skills by being actively engaged in the learning process. Members of the school’s board are Chairman Mr. Mohammed Taleb AL-Khouri and the director of the schools, Mr. Jayashankar Pillai. The quality control of the education system at DMIS rests with the Academic Auditor who is part of the Senior Management team. Kindergarten follows a curriculum where the child is initiated into schooling through fun – filled activities and child – oriented methods of learning. Activities that encourage basic cognitive and motor skills, along with basic lessons in literacy, numerals, phonics and well graded writing patterns follow a comprehensive foundation building program. Emphasis is laid on education through exploration and experimentation. The curriculum in Primary School lays emphasis on concept formation and reasoning skills. Problem solving and creative thinking along with acquiring sound language skills and developing scientific temperament are all focused upon. Students learn English, Math, Science / EVS, Social Studies, Second language (Arabic, French, Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil), Art & Craft, Music, Dance, PE and Computer Science in grades 1 to 5. The courses offered in Middle School (grades 6 to 8) are English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Second language (Arabic, French, Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil), Third language (Arabic, French, Hindi and Malayalam), Art &Craft, Music, Dance, PE and Computer Science, to be curious and analytical and are prepared to accept additional challenges. Islamic studies / Moral education is compulsory for grades 1 to 8. The Secondary School (grades 9 &10) curriculum includes English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Second language (Arabic, French, Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil), PE and Health Education/ Art Education / Work Education and Information Technology. The Senior School has both the Science Stream and the Commerce Stream. English, Math, Physics, Chemistry and Biology / Informatics Practices / Computer Science are the subjects offered to the science students. English, Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, Mathematics / Computer Science / Informatics Practices are offered to the Commerce students. The students are prepared for the Senior School Certificate Examination under 10+2 pattern of the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi. The school conducts C.B.S.E Examination at Grade 10 and Grade 12, students appear for the CBSE Grade 12 examination conducted by the CBSE. This examination is accepted by all Indian Universities as a Qualifying examination for their three-year Under Graduate Courses. Self-Study Visiting Committee Report Doha Modern Indian School 4 Qatar National School Accreditation (QNSA) Evaluation Institute – Supreme Education Council CBSE-International (CBSEi) has formulated an internationally benchmarked global curriculum which is enquiry and skill based. It addresses global needs as well as relates to local issues and local culture. It aims to build learners with critical and creative thinking skills, interpersonal and communication skills along with strong physical and emotional health. There are five areas – Languages, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics and a combination of PE, Performing Arts and Visual Arts. At the heart of the curriculum are innovative programs called Perspectives, Life Skills, SEWA (Social Empowerment through Work and Action) and Research. The Academic Year is divided into two terms-1st Term (April to September) and 2nd Term (October to March). These are interspersed with summer (July- August) and winter holidays (December). The school conducts two formal examinations, once each term. Specialized language acquisition strategies, where teachers use a range of skills to ensure material is accessible such as: body language, hand gestures, visual and audio aids, real life props, context, clear enunciation, a range of questioning techniques. Problem Solving, where students learn how to find the best possible solution as opposed to the easiest solution or the first solution proposed.
