If you are going anywhere along the northern coastline as far as Fajardo and Ceiba, you take the northern route. If you are going toward ✔ All the routes Humacao (or as far south as Maunabo), you take the south- start at the LMM central route. If you are going to Naguabo, you may reach it International Airport. from either route, but the south-central route is a bit quicker. The northern route splits into two alternatives: Rt 187 to Loíza (down the Piñones beach area) and Rt 3 to Carolina and on to Fajardo. To get on Rt 187 to Loíza, as you exit the airport, stay in the far right lane and follow the sign to San Juan. Stay in the far right-hand lane. Take the very first right-hand turn (it comes up very quickly, just before you go under the overpass and is marked Rt 187 Loíza). After that turn, stay in ✔ Take the the two right-hand lanes. This will take you down the coast and north route if into Loíza. To take the main northern route into the East, you you are headed follow the signs to Carolina. This turns into Rt 52, Ponce and Caguas. T opography and Climate of Eastern Puerto Rico This volcanic island has three distinct areas: the Cordillera Central (central mountains), the Karst region, and the Llanos Costaneros (Coastal Plains). The eastern region is in the Coastal Plains and part of the central mountains. Puerto Rico's unique location and topography create a "year-round summer" with different regional climates. The trade winds from the southeast keep temperatures along the coast 80ºF (27ºC) to low 90ºF (32ºC) during the day and 75ºF (24ºC) or so at night.
