WELCOME TO PUBLIC LAND STATISTICS 1999 Welcome to the 1999 edition ofPublic LandStatistics, published by U.S. Department ofthe Interior, Bureau ofLand Management. This year's edition includes three new tables: Table 2-10, Non-Fire Fuels Treatments; Table 3-32, Receipts from Mining Fees; and Table 5-12, Number and Size ofDesignated Special Management Areas. In addition, a number ofnew graphs have been added to accompany Table 1-7, Cadastral Survey Actions Completed. The Glossary has been revised to include new definitions and to update definitions that were provided in previous Public LandStatistics editions. Finally, formats and fonts have been changed slightly to make the tables easier to read and understand. Public Land Statistics is available on the Internet. Visit our national homepage at: http://www.blm.gov Note that the data presented in the 1999 Public Land Statistics tables may not exactly match the BLM data in other publications covering Fiscal Year 1999 operations and accomplishments. This occurs because the databases that provide table data are not static; they are constantly being updated to provide the latest information, sometimes many months after the end ofthe fiscal year. We have presented the most current data available in this edition ofPublic LandStatistics. Your feedback and suggestions are always appreciated. We have included a comment card that you can cut out ofthe document, fold, and mail to our Headquarters Office. Any comments you provide will be used to help make Public Land Statistics as responsive to your needs as possible. We remain committed to publishing a Public Land Statistics each year that is timely, complete, and as helpful as possible to our readers. Vll
