Abstract Asmallpterostichinecarabidbeetle,Pterostichus(Phonlas)diiigens
(STURM)isrecordedforthefirsttimefromJapan.Itismainlycharacterizedbythepeculiar
shapeoftheaedeagus.
SofarasIamaware,morethant,300speciesofcarabidbeetleshavebeenknown
fromtheJapaneseterritory. 0fthese, about35speciesarewidelydistributedin the
EurasianContinent, their distributional ranges reachingJapan, for example: Nolt1o-
philus aquatlcus (LINNE), Miscodera arctica (PAYKULL), Bembidion articulatum
(PANZER),Pfa mlsassfmz'll's(PAYKULL), maMa feOeJa (GYLLENHAL), mSOdaC uS
signatus(PANZER),andSOOn.
Thepurposeofthepresentpaperistoaddaspeciesshowingthesamepatternof
distribution to theJapanese fauna. It isasmall pterostichinecarabi(i,Pterostlchus
(1phonlas)di11gens(STURM),determinedbyG.Sh.LAFER,theRussiancarabidspecial-
ist.

および青森県八甲田山から採集された小型のナガゴミムシが, キタヒメナガゴミムシpteros_
fichus(Phonias)diligens(STURM)に同定されたので, 日本初記録として報告した. 本種は雄の交

尾器の陰茎基部下面に三角形の突起を有することで, 容易にほかの小型のナガゴミムシ類と識
別される.
