If you are new to this amazing world, in a nutshell the author wrote a story using one or more of my characters in it. Sometimes that character has a major role in the story, and other times they are only mentioned briefly. This is perfectly legal and allowable because they are going through Aces Press to publish the story. This book is entirely the work of the author who wrote it. While I might have assisted with brainstorming and other ideas about which of my characters to use, I didn’t have any part in the process or writing or editing the story. I’m proud and excited that so many authors loved my characters enough that they wanted to write them into their own story. Thank you for supporting them, and me! READ ON! Xoxo Susan Stoker ABOUT THE BOOK Michael “Flint” Gray is a Navy SEAL forced into retirement by a personal secret that could shorten his life and trap him in a nightmare. A former teammate gives Flint a new lease on life when he offers Flint a job in Colorado with Watchdog Protectors, a security company with its own secrets. Flint has the chance to meet and learn from Tex Keegan for a week while the computer genius and his wife Melody are visiting—Tex for work and Melody for a much-deserved vacation. Flint is no stranger to Colorado. It’s where he met, loved, and lost the woman of his dreams ten years ago. Harper Marling knows she’s a dead woman walking. Her charming narcissist ex-husband, James Hargrave, has done his best to ruin her life from the minute she reached for freedom. Now, she’s on the cusp of taking down the powerful multi-millionaire and reclaiming her life, if she can keep her plans a secret. Blackballed from her job as a medical researcher, Harper’s just taken a temporary job with Watchdog Protectors when she runs into the man who broke her heart a decade ago. Harper isn't sure if she’s ready to love again, but Flint gives her a reason to try as he stirs a slumbering passion deep inside her. James isn't done trying to destroy Harper. If he can't have her, no one can, let alone a retired SEAL- turned-bodyguard. Can Harper trust Flint, Tex, and Watchdog Protectors to have her six? Or will James’ deadly game of cat-and-mouse end Harper’s life—in service to a darker purpose? Protecting Harper is the first book in the Watchdog Protectors Series which branches off from the Watchdog Security Series by Olivia Michaels. Each book can be read as a standalone with an HEA but they do have reoccurring characters. If you like hot, tender alpha bodyguards, thrilling romance, sizzling sex scenes, faithful dogs as loyal and brave as their keepers, and stories of women becoming all they can be, you’ll love the men of Watchdog Security and Watchdog Protectors, sworn to protect their women and defend their country, as they uncover a vast conspiracy that could change the world. C HA PT E R 1 “Today’s the day, babe,” Kyle McGuire said as he rolled over and kissed his fiancée, Arden Volker. She yawned and stretched. “Really? Something happening today?” But she couldn’t hide her smile and her eyes danced with mischief. Just for that, Kyle tickled her under the ribs. “Smartass,” he growled into her ear. When she finished laughing, Arden said, “I am so excited for you, and so proud, and so happy.” Her gray eyes regarded him in the early morning light, shining with all the love he needed. They were still in bed at Arden’s ranch house. Their black-and-gold Lab, Camo, snored like a furry buzzsaw in his bed by the window. Arden started to get up and Kyle pulled her back, tucking her in tightly against his body. God, she felt so good in his arms. As eager as he was for this day to happen, he could’ve spent the rest of it in bed with his strong, sexy woman. “Lemme go, I need to get the critters fed,” she murmured against his chest. And stubborn. Definitely stubborn. But then she lifted her chin and started kissing his throat, right where the shivers always started and spread throughout his body. He’d put up with any amount of stubbornness for that sexy. Kyle growled, “So which is it, woman? Is it lemme go or is it make mad passionate love with me, because you are sending the most mixed of signals right now.” Arden chuckled. “Oh, I think one signal is coming through loud and clear, judging by your reaction.” Her hand moved between them and wrapped around his hard cock, stroking light and fast. Kyle arched into her, groaning as she went back to kissing his throat, then nuzzling his beard stubble with her cheek. His hands slid down her back to cup her sweet ass. He rolled until she was on top of him and he could gaze up at her loveliness. Arden shifted until she straddled him and sat up. The growing sunlight caressed her naked body, lighting the curve of her graceful neck, spilling over her rounded shoulder, pouring down her breasts to pool around her bellybutton. Perfection. “I love you, Arden.” Arden smiled down at him. “I love you, Kyle.” She ran her hands over his abs and up his chest as she brushed against his cock. No doubt, his woman was hungrier than the critters she said she needed to feed. Then again, so was he. She had him throbbing and aching for the sweetness between her legs. He slid his palms up to cup her breasts then squeezed her nipples as she closed her eyes and tipped her chin toward the ceiling. She rubbed herself along his length and stopped at the tip with a soft moan. God, they were both ready. “Closer, babe. I want to taste your mouth.” He pulled her down gently, enfolding her as Arden’s mouth met his. So hungry. His hands caressed her back all the way down to her bottom as she gripped Kyle and slid him home. They moved together, touching, kissing, racing toward the ecstasy waiting for them. Kyle’s whole body tightened until he was moments away. Arden bit her lower lip and held her breath, a sure sign she was close too. He took her face in his hands. “Look in my eyes, baby. Want to…watch you…” The hot intensity of her gaze as her core squeezed around him sent Kyle over the edge. He groaned as he released into her, loving her answering moans of pleasure. She lay down on him, her lips grazing the place where his neck met his shoulder. He breathed in her warm summer scent as he ran his hand through her hair. God, every time they made love was better than the last. Quick or lingering, morning, noon, or night, it didn’t matter. The more of Arden he had, the more of her he wanted. And she met his desire with hers. He’d never felt so loved, so accepted, so cared for. That, and she made him laugh, to the point that his friends and former co- workers in Los Angeles remarked on how much he’d changed, how happy and relaxed he’d become. Funny to think he owed it all to his search for Camo back in December. Kyle had everything he ever wanted, ever needed. And now his job was to protect what was his by building his security team here in Colorado. Watchdog Protectors was one of many teams joined together with the purpose of finding and stopping injustice. And today he’d be meeting one of his benefactors, a man who had helped his former bosses, Gina and Lachlan, save Arden and her ranch by identifying the threat behind the threat. Once Kyle debriefed and found out who it was, he’d been humbled and awed. A computer genius named Tex Keegan. Now that Kyle was close to fully opening Watchdog Protectors, Tex and his wife Melody were due to arrive today to troubleshoot Kyle’s operation—and enjoy a well-deserved Colorado vacation. Tex would be going over the finer points of cyber security while Melody and their dog, Baby, relaxed with Arden and Camo. Arden was looking forward to the meeting as well, since she owed Tex a big thank you for helping to save her ranch. “Your heart’s pounding, Kyle, and I feel like that’s not all me.” Arden grinned up at him. “Babe, it’s always you. But yeah, today is weighing on me.” She kissed him. “Don’t let it. What you’ve managed to accomplish in under a year is frankly astounding.” “What we’ve accomplished, you mean.” Arden propped herself up. “I rebuilt a barn. You started a multi-purpose security company.” “I couldn’t have done it without you at my side.” He brushed back her long, honey-colored hair. “I just want you to know that I appreciate everything, including putting off our wedding.” There. He’d said it, the other thing that was bothering him. Arden rolled her eyes. “How long have we known each other now?” Kyle grinned. “You want that answer in people years or dog years?” She chuckled at their private joke. “We haven’t even hit one people year yet so we’d better keep going with the dog years.” She touched his lips to stop him from speaking. “My point is, I don’t mind waiting. Not that I have any doubts that you’re the love of my life, but that’s just it—we have our whole lives ahead of us. We’re together in every sense of the word except on paper. I’d rather we wait until we can actually enjoy the day,” she slipped her hand down along his torso, arousing him again, “and everything that comes after, than to try and cram a wedding and honeymoon in between you flying back and forth to LA and getting everything up and running here.” She removed her hand, which made Kyle groan, and sat up. “Now, I’m definitely running behind,
