WCMC-THE WORLDCONSERVATIONMONITORING CENTRE TheWorldConservationMonitoringCentre(WCMC)isajointventurebetweenthethreepartnerswhodevelopedthe World Conservation Strategy: lUCN - The World Conservation Union, UNEP - United Nations Environment WWF Programme, and - World Wide Fund For Nature (formerly World Wildlife Fund). Its mission is to support conservationandsustainabledevelopmentthroughtheprovisionofinformationontheworld'sbiologicaldiversity. WCMC has developed a global overview database that includes threatened plant and animal species, habitats of conservationconcern,critical sites,protectedareasoftheworld,and theutilisation andtrade inwildlifespeciesand WCMC products. Drawing on this database, provides an information service to the conservation and development communities,governmentsandUnitedNationsagencies, scientific institutions, thebusinessandcommercial sector, WCMC andthemedia. producesawidevarietyofspecialistoutputsandreportsbasedonanalysesofitsdata.
