Mission Statement Scottish Rite is a fraternity of Master Masons whose Mission is to teach, to train and to encourage members to practice the important lessons of truth, of honour, and of virtue. It promotes belief in a Supreme Being and brotherly love amongst all people regardless of race, colour, or creed. It improves the individual character through the lessons taught in the degrees and through leadership training and relevant programs. It seeks to make a positive impact on the welfare of mankind through its charitable foundation. It is a financially sound organization, which leads by example. 5 ILLBROCHARLES ROBERT TOWNSHEND, 33º IMMEDIATE PAST SOVEREIGN GRAND COMMANDER 6 ILLBROMATTHEW FRANCIS TODD, 33 SOVEREIGN GRAND COMMANDER Bro. Todd was born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia and received his high school education there. He joined the Bank of Nova Scotia and served for 38 years in various locations throughout New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, finishing his career in a management capacity in the Atlantic Regional Office, Halifax. 7 In his post retirement, he actively pursued a career as an Instructor/Trainer for the Nova Scotia Safety Council. The Council takes a leading role, in the Province of Nova Scotia, in the promotion of safety training in the occupational, traffic and public areas of safety. He has held the position of Secretary/Manager of Freemason‘s Hall Limited in Halifax, since 1991-2009. He takes a leading role in the Port Wallis United Church where he is an Elder and has served as Chair of the Trustees for 10 years. He is also a member of the Port Wallis Players, an amateur Dinner Theatre group that performs in the Halifax area. He also serves on the Finance & Planning Committee of the Halifax Presbytery, United Church of Canada. He served on the Board of Directors of Windsor Elms since 2003. It is a Senior Citizens Home in Windsor, Nova Scotia. He was Chair of the Finance Committee during his time on the Board. In 1970, he was initiated in Keith Lodge No. 17 in Halifax, and has served as Worshipful Master on four occasions. He served as Lodge Secretary for 11 years and Treasurer for 10 years. He is a Past Grand Steward and Past Grand Historian of the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia. Bro. Todd was awarded the Erasmus James Phillips Medallion as recognition of his achievements, in 1999. He has been a member of Royal Union No. 1, Royal Arch Masons since 1991 and is Past High Priest and Past Grand Principal Sojourner. He has been a member of the Royal Order of Scotland, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, since 1994 and served as Grand Secretary for 10 years. He is also a member of Neptune Council No. 71, Universal Craftsmen Council of Engineers. He is also a member of the Philae Temple, Ancient Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Bro. Todd joined the Victoria Lodge of Perfection in Halifax, on October 16th, 1982, Keith Sovereign Chapter of Rose Croix on November 20th, 1982, and the Nova Scotia Consistory on March 19th, 1983. He served as Thrice Puissant Grand Master in 1991/92. He was coroneted an Honourary Inspector General in Calgary, in September 1996, an Active Member at Niagara Falls in September 1999 and as Deputy for Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, in Winnipeg, September 2000. He served in the latter capacity for six years. He 8 was elected Lieutenant Grand Commander in Halifax, September 2006 and Sovereign Grand Commander in Hamilton 2009. He is a widower and has lived in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia for the past 40 years. He has two children, a daughter Shelley, and a son Douglas and three grandchildren. ILLBRORICHARD AUSTIN HOWELL BROWN, 33° LIEUTENANT GRAND COMMANDER Richard Brown was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on September 6, 1948. After attaining a Master‘s degree in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, Richard joined the staff of the Regina School Division as a High School Mathematics teacher. In 1978 he joined the central office staff holding various positions in Human Resource Management and school division administration. He retired in June, 2004 as the Assistant Superintendent of Policy, Planning and Research. In addition to his ongoing interests within the Masonic Family he enjoys gardening and spending time at his cottage with his family and friends. Richard joined Assiniboia Lodge No. 49 in March, 1973. He served the Lodge as Worshipful Master for 1983 and since 1990 has been the Lodge's Secretary-Treasurer. He is also a member of Solomon Lodge of Research No. 5986 and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Regina Masonic Temple Company for several years. Bro. Brown is a Senior DeMolay, a past Executive Officer for Saskatchewan and served as the Grand Master of the Order of DeMolay of Canada (1983- 85). In the Grand Lodge of Saskatchewan, Richard served as the Most Worshipful Grand Master for 1997-98 and currently serves on several committees of the Board of General Purposes and the Board of Custodians of The Work. 9 Ill. Bro. Brown, 33°, is a Life Member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Regina. He served the Regina Chapter of Rose Croix as Most Wise Sovereign (1984-85), as the Thrice Puissant Grand Master of the Regina Lodge of Perfection (1995- 96) and Commander-in-Chief of Saskatchewan Consistory (2002). In September 1998 he was coroneted an Honourary Inspector-General and in September, 2001 he was elected to become a Sovereign Grand Inspector- General. On September 14, 2002 he was crowned a Sovereign Grand Inspector-General and was appointed to serve as Deputy for Saskatchewan for the Supreme Council. On September 19, 2009 he was installed as Lieutenant Grand Commander. Noble Richard joined WA WA Temple in June, 1976 and has been a member of the Regina Drum Corps since that time. In 1992 he was President of the Unit. He was appointed to the Divan of WA WA Temple in January 2001 and served WA WA Temple as Potentate for 2008. M. W. Bro. Richard has been a member of the Royal Order of Scotland since 1991 and is presently serving a five year term as Provincial Grand Master. He is also a member of Prince of Wales Chapter No. 27 of the Royal Arch Masons and a member of Wascana Preceptory No. 51 Knights Templar. Richard is currently serving on the Vestry of St. Luke's Anglican Church, Regina and has been Treasurer since 1993. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Qu‘Appelle House, a senior‘s residence within the health district. 10
