BRO .. HAROLD EDWARD CROSBY, 33° Past Sovereign Grand Commander ILL.. BRO.. GLENN MARVIN MARTIN, 33° Sovereign Grand Commander IllBroGlenn Marvin Martin was elected and installed as Sovereign Grand Commander in Barrie, Ontario, on September 13, 1997. Bro. Martin was born at Ottawa, Ontario on December 24, 1925. He attended elemen¬ tary and high schools in Ottawa, and in 1949 graduated with the degree of M.D., C.M., from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. He undertook residency training in Kingston, Saskatoon, and Ottawa, and received his specialist qualification in General Pathology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1954. Bro. Martin married Mary Charles on April 19, 1949, and they have two sons and four daughters. Moving to Edmonton in 1954, Bro. Martin began his career as the Clinical Pathologist at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in that city. Three years later he moved to Kamloops, B.C., to assume the post of Chief of the Clinical Pathology Service at the Royal Inland Hospital. Through periods of development and expansion, this position was held for over thirty-three years. Bro. Martin was initiated into Mount St. Paul Lodge No. 109, in Kamloops, on March 22, 1960 and was raised to be a Master Mason on December 5, 1960. He was Worshipful Master of his Lodge in 1981-82 and served the Grand Lodge of British Columbia as Grand Organist in 1978-88, and District Deputy Grand Master in 1996-97. In 1984, he became a member of the Red Cross of Constantine. In the Scottish Rite, he received the 14° in Vernon Lodge of Perfection on June 6, 1963, the 18° in Moray Chapter of Rose Croix on November 9, 1963, and the 32° in the Vancouver Consistory on October 3, 1964. He has served as T.P.G.M. and M.W.S. Bro. Martin was coroneted an Honorary Inspector-General 33° at Niagara Palls on September 14, 1979, was crowned an Active Member in Thunder Bay in 1991, and was installed as Lieutenant Grand Commander in Halifax in 1994. He was received into the Royal Order of Scotland, Provincial Grand Lodge of British Columbia, on November 12, 1983. Bro. Martin has been active in the International Order of Jobs Daughters, and in 1992- 93 served as Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of British Columbia and Yukon, Order of the Eastern Star. ILL.. BRO.. NORMAN EDWARD BYRNE, 33° Lieutenant Grand Commander IllBro Norman Edward Byrne was elected and installed as Lieutenant Grand Commander in Barrie, Ontario, on September 13, 1997. Bro. Byrne was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and received his elementary education there. He grad¬ uated in Mechanical Engineering, S.P.S. at the University of Toronto in 1949, and continued at Osgoode Hall Law School, being called to the Bar in 1953. He is the senior partner of Byrne, Martin and Bedford, and is also a Registered Professional Engineer (A.P.E.O.). He was created a Queen's Counsel in 1965 and is currently practising law in Hamilton, Ontario. Bro. Byrne was initiated into University Lodge No.496 GRC Toronto. He returned to Hamilton to practise law with his late father, Norman W. Byrne, Q.C., 33°, and became a charter member of Meridian Lodge No.687 GRC. He served as WM in 1961, and currently holds office as Organist. Bro. Byrne served as a member of the Board of General Purposes of the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario continuously from 1973, until his election as Grand Master, having served as Chairman of a number of committees thereof. He was elected as Grand Master in 1991. He was appointed Vice-Chairman of The Conference of Grand Masters of Masons in North America in 1992, and Chairman of The Conference of Canadian Grand and District Grand Lodges that same year. He is a member of King David Chapter R.A.M., was appointed Grand Senior Sojourner in 1992, and currently chairs one of its committees. He is a Shriner and a member of Rameses Temple, Toronto. In Scottish Rite Masonry, he is a member of all Scottish Rite bodies, served as TPGM of Murton Lodge of Perfection in 1970-1971, and became CIC of Moore Sovereign Consistory in 1980. Bro. Byrne was coroneted an Honorary Inspector-General at Vancouver, British Columbia, in September 1973, and was crowned an Active Member at Thunder Bay, Ontario, in 1991. He is a member and Organist of The Royal Order of Scotland. In his profession, he is a member of several legal associations and served as President of the Hamilton Lawyers’ Club in 1965. In the community, he has served as a Director and Chairman of The Addiction Research Foundation, Hamilton Branch, and is a life¬ time member. Director, and Honorary Solicitor of The YMCA of HamiltonVBurlington. He was recently honoured for his 40-years service as Honorary Solicitor to the “Y” and was made a member of The YMCA Canada Legion of Honour at Rideau Hall, Ottawa. He is an ardent skier and a member of Holimont Ski Club, Ellicottville, New York, and served as a Director and Secretary for 13 years. He is currently a member of Ryerson United Church, Ancaster. Bro. Byrne married Nancy Dennis in 1978. He has three children, a daughter Kathryn McGrath of Burlington, a son Norman Byrne Jr., 32°, of Oakville, and a daughter Shelley Moody of Thunder Bay. He and Nancy are the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren. In addition to his continuing involvement in several committees of masonic bodies, Bro. Byrne spends what little of his spare time biking, skiing, and sailing with his wife and life-partner Nancy, who ably assists him as a most talented and gracious hostess to his many masonic friends. ILL.. BRO.. DONALD WILFRED DIXON, 33° Grand Chancellor IllBro.'.Donald Wilfred Dixon was elected and installed as Grand Chancellor in Barrie, Ontario, on September 13, 1997. Bro. Dixon was born in Elkhorn, Manitoba, December 21, 1925, the elder son of Wilfred and Leone Dixon and spent his early childhood on the family farm, receiving his education at the University of Manitoba in Agriculture. This was interrupted when Bro. Dixon joined the Canadian Army and served overseas with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. On being discharged in 1946, he moved to London, Ontario, to begin a new career in Funeral Directing. He graduated from the Canadian School of Embalming at Banting Institute, Toronto, in 1949. After serving at various funeral homes in Ontario, Bro. Dixon moved to Fonthill, Ontario, in 1959, and pur¬ chased the Drake & Barron Funeral Home that had been established in 1887. He sold the business in 1992 and now enjoys retirement. In 1950, he married Betty Marie Harrison of London, Ontario, and they have three chil¬ dren, two daughters, Darlene and Brenda, and one son, Gregory, and eight grandchil¬ dren. Being interested in the community, he has been quite active in various organizations: Past President of the Fonthill Lions’ Club; a volunteer Fireman and Past President of the association presently an Honorary Member; Past President of Niagara District Funeral Service Association; a member of Ontario Funeral Service Association; served on the Fonthill Hydro Commission for 17 years and as chairman for several terms; served on the Advisory Board of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind in the Niagara area. He has been a member of the Fonthill United Church for 38 years and has served on various boards. Bro. Dixon’s masonic career began in Hamilton, Ontario, where he was initiated, passed, and raised in St. John’s Lodge No.40 in 1955. On moving to Fonthill, in 1959, he affiliated with Phoenix Lodge No.535 and served as WM in 1970, and as President of Past Masters and Officers Association in 1972. In 1982, he was elected DDGM of Niagara District B and served on the Board of General Purposes of the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario for 5 years. In Scottish Rite Masonry, he received his 14° in Elgin Lodge of Perfection in 1972, his 18° in Niagara Chapter of Rose Croix in 1973 and served as MWS from 1979-1981, his 32° from Moore Sovereign Consistory in 1973. He has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Niagara Valley since 1977. In September 1982, Bro. Dixon was coroneted Honorary Inspector-General at Fredericton, New Brunswick, and crowned Sovereign Grand Inspector-General in 1989 at Ottawa, Ontario. On October 21, 1989, he was admitted as a member of The Royal Order of Scotland in Hamilton, Ontario. His hobbies include hunting and fishing of which he has been Secretary/Treasurer of the Garden City Hunt Club for many years. ILL.. BRO.. ROBERT GEORGE WANDS, 33° Grand Secretary-General ILL.. BRO.. HARRY EDWARD STANDISH, 33° Grand Treasurer-General IllBro.\Harry Edward Standish was crowned a Sovereign Grand Inspector-General in Barrie, Ontario, on September 13, 1997. He was installed as Grand Treasurer-General at a Special Session held on October 18, 1997. Bro. Standish was born in Brampton, Ontario, April 11, 1938 and lived on the family homestead cleared by his great-grandfather and farmed by the family since 1819. The family moved to Thorold during the War years. He completed his public and high school education in the Thorold school system. He articled as an accounting student in St. Catharines for three years before moving to Stoney Creek in 1964, finishing his training with Coopers & Lybrand, graduating as a Chartered Accountant in August 1966, and remained with them as an Audit Manager for five years. In 1971 he moved to Ottawa, joining the CBC, The Management and Reports and Financial Analysis Division. One year later, he moved to Caledon and transferred to Sterisystems in Etobicoke, a company specializing in hospital TV rentals, pharmaceuticals and electronic operating room equipment sales and service. Although remaining in Caledon, he returned to Coopers & Lybrand in Toronto, in 1974, and was put on a temporary loan to Hamilton, until the spring of 1975, at which time he joined Porritts & Spencer Canada Inc., a temporary transfer that has lasted 22 years. Bro. Standish started as the Controller, rising to Vice-President Finance, Director and Secretary of the corporation. During his time with the company, computers became more common in the business world and the various systems for accounting and man¬ agement have been developed and installed. General administration, employee benefits, treasury, financial reports, and union negotiations are all areas that came under his direction. Bro. Standish married Marion (nee Gordon) in July 1961, and they have three children, two daughters, Ellen and Alison, and son, David, who at the age of 20 succumbed to Leukaemia in 1985. They also have two grandchildren. He is a member of Knox United Church in Caledon and the church choir. Chairman of the General Board, and has been on various committees. Involved with the Caledon Agricultural Society, he has served as an Associate Director, the Auditor, and assisted with various projects and committees acting as Emcee for the parade and the opening ceremonies. In recognition of his efforts, the Town of Caledon awarded Bro. Standish with the Volunteer of the Year Award in 1993. Bro. Standish was initiated into Masonry in 1968, in Acacia Lodge No.61 in Hamilton, serving as its WM in 1983, and Treasurer since 1984. In 1981, he affiliated with
