PRELIMINARY NOTICE. ‘Yun Bombay Geographical Society, formerly the Bombay Branch of the Royal Geographical Society of London, was instituted in the yeat 1831, In conformity with a notice which appeared in the Bombay Courier of the 24 April, a Meeting was held in the Rooms of the Bombay Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, ou the (th April, at which the following gentlemen were present :— ‘The Right Hon. the Earl of Ccare in the Chair. By addressed the meeting at lengtls on the object of tfe- Association about 6 be organized, a series ofe(éesoiutians was passed, (on the {th June 1832,) forming,the basisot the future Rules of the'Socicty, which are subjomed as amended and, tow in force. Ist. This Society, establi hed for'the' purpose of co-operating with the Royal Goographicul Societj of Mondon, fur encouraging and instituting Geographical researches in Western Agia, and the conryies contiguous, 1s denominated the Bombay Branch of the Royal Geographizal Society. 2d. The Sovicty shall consist of Members and Subscribers. Sd. All Members of the Bombay Branch of the Royal Asiatic So. ciety are cutitled to be admitted members of the Geographical So- ciety, on making application to this effect through the Secretary, and paying the prescribed annual subscription. 4th. Any person, not a Member of the Bombay Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, desirous of eeoming a Member of the Geo- graphical Socicty, must intimate the same to the Seerctary, upon “which he shall be balloted for at a general mecting of the Members. ah ‘The Right Hon. the Eael 8f ‘Clage, Governor of oso having No applicant shall Le considered duly elected, unless he unite is favour the votes of three-fourths ofthe Members present 6th, Subscribers shall enjov all the privileges of Members, except those 6f voting at the general mectings, of being elected Office-Bear- ers, or of becoming Members of the Committee. 7th. An annual subscription, amounting to Ra. 24, shall be paid by all Members and Subscribers in advance, ou the Ist of April ol each year, > &4, Of the Olfice-Bearers and Comumittee.—The Olfice-Bearers shall consist of a President ja Seerctary, and Treasurer, permanent— two Vice-Presidents, an¢ aGtneral Committee of Management (cou ug of 25 Members) to be chosen Sunually. The Sub-Commnitice having the superintendence of all the internal arrangements, accounts, &c., of the Society, shall be deuo- minated the “ Sub-Committee of Accounts: ” the other shall con- duct the correspondence of the Society, and suggest plans for attain- ing its scientific objects—to he called ‘The Sub-Committee of Cor- respondence.” 10th. Jfth, Ou the functions of the Onice-Rearers. — Phe General ‘ommittce of Management shall mect regularly, on the first Wednes- ay of every mouth at 12 o'clock ; and at these mectings, the Sec- retary shall request the attendance ofall Members of the Society whenever an election of new Members shall require. 15th, ‘Che President shall preside at the general mectings of the Society to couduct the proecedings, and give effect to the resvlutions. With, ‘The Vice-Presidents shall preside at the general meetings an the absence of the President, and in rotation at meetings of the General Committee of Management.
